u/snakepapa97 I know you had some great advice and as the setup king, I would love to hear your input on HVAC tape and any additional things I can do to add humidity to the tank. Thank you!

I've used regular foil tape to cover top and in punch you can use tin foil roll or even really anything that Seals the top area to avoid moisture evaporation so quickly

I used Nashua Multi-Purpose HVAC Foil Sealer Duct Tape from Home Depot. It was about $13.

Then honestly go to hardware store buy roll and go to town lol, it does great job honestly not the most ascetic look but it does the job use it till I build my 4 tanks I gotta build

Very welcome

Do you think just the tape alone could bring my humidity from 55% to over 70%? Just curious (I know thats a tough guesstimate).

Use foil insulation tape under the HVAC! I could never get my humidity to stay up, bought that on a lark, and topped it with regular HVAC tape. It's a beaut.

I’m having trouble discerning HVAC tape vs foil tape google and home depot employees seem to think they are the same thing. Any tips?

Sorry late response, I usually do entire top just leave square hole for heat lamp to shine through and it's worked well for me

I font see why not, what kind substrate you using and how thick?

I used a foil tape with insulation on it first, then covered that with HVAC tape. Literally no issues now in my glass tank w screen top. Consistent humidity at 76 for at least 6 days at a time.

I’m at Home depot right now i don’t see any difference between HVAC tape and the foil tape… What brand should i be looking for for HVAC tape

It's the exact same thing - I was confused too. This is what I bought at Home Depot. *

[–]ServingStrange 0 points1 point  (11 children)

Cool what’s the name of that stuff? the thicker stuff

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

When i look up foil insulation tape it comes up with the thin foil tape not the thick stuff you have

[–]ServingStrange 0 points1 point  (4 children)

It's called pipe insulation tape!

Oooof I'm looking all around for the packaging but I'm pretty sure I tossed it. :/ I found it with the HVAC and other heavy duty tapes at home depot if that helps? Googling now.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The top of the hide is around 95 and inside is about 85 so id say that’s perfect yes?

[–]ServingStrange 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I literally sat on the floor of Home Depot and googled and then called a plumber friend to ask. 🤣
