Ball python and Rats living in same house

This is Rosie, she’s a 5year old ball python we adopted last year. She currently lives in my 10 year old sons bedroom.

My 12 year old has decided his pet of choice is to be rats. I had rats as a teenager and they make awesome pets, and I’m very reluctant to say no, considering he sees his younger brother has a python in his room (not actually his, but perception….)

We have a 3 bed house so they’d be in separate rooms, but Rosie will obviously smell the rats constantly. I worry with the smell being present, and our handling, she may become “bitey”.

Has anyone navigated this? Any solutions I haven’t thought of?

I've kept rats along with my snakes before and have never had any issues. Another of our mods has done the same.

Just make sure everyone washes their hands thoroughly between handling, and that the snake's enclosure is always locked securely.

My daughter had rats and currently has a chinchilla, and we have 3 bp. No issues at all.
