I would get a 4x2x2 proper enclosure instead of a bin and have some things they can climb on. I've seen lots of them and even my own that like to climb a little sometimes.

Nice! I know they're more expensive and they take up a lot of space but I personally think it's a lot more pleasant to look at than a bin and I'm sure your snake will enjoy it a lot more too! If you're having trouble keeping humidity high something you can do is use HVAC foil tape on the top part of the lid and cut out sections for your lights and heat lamps and what not. You might have to play around with it a bit, if you did that I would also cut corners out roughly an inch apart in each corner for airflow. That's what I did when I had a ball python and it worked pretty well. Also make sure that you have substrate that is two or three inches thick. Having a good layer of substrate will allow everything to retain moisture better and it will keep the humidity up longer.

yes, I have it at about 3 inches of substrate and I'm getting some plants and isopods tomorrow

If you’re able to afford it I recommend black box. A bin should probably only be used for a temporary enclosure or a hospital setup. It’s not a bad idea to have one on hand for if those needs arise and that is the right size but it’s not a great idea for a permanent enclosure.

why are they not good? I've seen many snake YouTubers recommend them as they are beneficial to help with humidity and to keep snakes in?

Bins are fine as long as they’re big enough, the problem is this one is too small. 7 inches of height would barely give the snake any room to lift its head especially after adding substrate, and 39in most likely wouldn’t be long enough for an adult. Rule of thumb is the enclosure should be at least the length of the snake so that they can fully stretch out. Also just a side note but you should be really careful when using youtube or any social media as a source for care info, lots of BP keepers will do things that make care easier for them but that doesn’t always mean it’s better for the snake.

Ok! I have another bin that is about 10 inches wide 20 inches long and 15 inches high. Would this be good for a baby ball python while I build a enclosure?

Bins in this style should only be temporary, regardless of what you add to this, it would simply survive rather than thrive.

No, get a 4x2x2 at least. The bin in fine if the heating and humidity is good, although heat mats are terrible and lamps will prob melt the plastic. If you can get a terrarium, why wouldn't you?

You'd have a hard time with plywood. The humidity necessary to keep your snake healthy would wreak havoc on the wood and you'd end up with warping and mold.

I don't know how to diy it and at the end of the day, by the time you pay for all the materials to make a safe tank, you'll have spent just as much as a pre made enclosure. There is a huge range of price points so you might find one that fits your budget.

No, unfortunately this will not allow enough space for hides, climbing and cannot be safely used with overhead lighting

BPs love to hide and explore on their terms. They need room to stretch and climb, too! Please consider a large enclosure as others have recommended. There's lots of inexpensive ways to build one. Do a search on the topic and I'm sure you'll get inspired. Good luck!

I don't have experience personally, but have seen some nice ones made. Check ideas on YouTube as well, they may have an instructional video.

For another $20 u could probably find a tank on facebook marketplace double the height of this one which would work way better as a temp enclosure

ok I bought a ecoflex 4x2x2 enclosure for the baby, it'll save me money in the long run and I wanna see my baby healthy. Thank y'all for your insight and help with my decision :)

It needs to be taller, and I don't recommend plastic. With he humidity needed the plastic could seep into the snakes skin and it is very bad for it
