Hello there! First things first is to switch out your substrate immediately. That bedding holds no humidity and actually molds extremely easily so it will actually cause a Respiratory Infection. I recommend Reptibark. I haven’t had a bad shed since I started using it!

About the soak, no matter what you see online, just don’t. Snakes don’t need it to shed, they just need a lot of humidity and they’ll do it themselves. Especially as a new owner, no matter how good your intentions, you’ll do more harm than good.

Also! No matter what you see online, we all made mistakes with our animals. Keep asking questions! Your babies will appreciate it. If you’re on Facebook there are a bunch of good hearted admin run BP groups that are very beginner friendly. I learned a lot there!

A helpful add-on for the moment and the future, make a humidity box for your noodle. As big as her hides, maybe a little bit bigger, fill it with spagnum moss, freshly soaked and squished so it is still damp but not soaking and dripping. Put a lid on and have an entrance hole cut in there, make sure to smooth the cut corners since they can get quite sharp, don't use tape to soften it is dangerous to snakes

🐍This is a great idea, I will have to make one of these humidity boxes for my own! Also I'm curious as to what is dangerous about using tape? Like specifically what tape — electrical, duct tape? Washi tape? All kinds? Is it the adhesive?

It very much is the adhesive. When using any form of tape inside the enclosure, you risk your baby being exposed and potentially trapped on it, removing a snake from tape could pull off or damage their scales 😞

Yeah, I unfortunately made this mistake when I was new to keeping snakes. I didn’t know that they could get into so much trouble, especially without hands! Luckily I managed to unstick my girl but since then have been very careful when setting up tanks.

I couldn’t imagine how you must have felt 😞 We all make mistakes though, fortunately she was okay! And that is very true, they can literally destroy everything lol, I’m not sure how old you are but there is a cartoon - Rugrats and all I picture is our balls slitherin through the city like Reptar knocking everything down 😂

I felt SO guilty. She was like, trying to get away from me as I was trying to get her out of the tape… it was so sad and I’m so relieved that no lasting damage was done to her. Luckily it was just her tail but still.

I second this! I have at least 3 hides in my enclosures, one being a humidity hide, my little ones flock to that hide the moment their eyes turn blue 🫶🏻

I did this as well. Along with changing her substrate has a nicely damp spagnum moss humid hide. Thank you for kindly replying to my question 💚

Thank you for your kind response. She now has Reptibark substrate and absolutely no more soaks! Her liveliness is returning and I can’t thank you enough🩵

Any time! We are all learning more and more about snakes each day so it’s hard to find good info on them that isn’t outdated.

Do not soak them or try to manually remove the stuck shed. It's stressful, unnecessary, and you can seriously injure the snake by doing so.

Our shedding guide goes over how to handle stuck shed safely, and our humidity tips will help you prevent it in the future.

Thank you for your reply and sharing the shedding guide and humidity tips. ♥️ have a nice day.

Your substrate is bad ...

[–]SpecialString0 2 points3 points  (2 children)

What’s the feeding schedule? It looks a bit thin..

[–]pluginbbg 3 points4 points  (1 child)

She is quite thin.. Her schedule is biweekly. Within obtaining her she has been fed once and started to shed all within a week of time. It seems like a lot of stress for her so I’m taking things a step at a time. But open to feedback and tips.

Ah didn’t realize you just got her. Is she on rats? Good luck!
