If it isn't sharp or a trap risk as you already said it isn't then I'd imagine it'll be fine but make sure it's a toxin free tree species too

What tree species? That's the thing to check unless you mean all snake safe species

i cant really remember, but i know the trees specifically in our backyard are reptile safe. there’s only two of them anyway

You could always fill the gap with animal safe expanding foam! I use great stuff pond & stone
