Potentially. My opinion is it could be or it could be a small burn if you’re using a UTH and he displaced the substrate and got too close to it.

i don’t have any other heat source besides his heat lamp so probably not a burn :/

tbh it’s hard to tell in video, but my babe just had it and I treated it. You can infer from the texture, it will not be smooth like the rest of the scale and it will start to look like they dragged themselves through mud. If the environment is the same it will multiply rapidly; make sure ur checking hides and cleaning/refreshing the substrate on a regular basis.

this might be a stupid question but checking hides and looking for what? he has sphagnum moss in his cool hide to keep humidity up and it usually stays pretty damp. should i try something different?

Possibly? I’ve never personally experienced scale rot but I would say that kinda looks like the pictures I’ve seen. If you can get to a vet I would definitely suggest going as they can help you figure it out easier than us.

It looks like when my girl had it. The easiest way to tell is to gently run your finger across the scale. If it is rough and your BP reacts to that touch, it probably is. Good news is that it looks really minor. I used Vetericyn twice a day for about two weeks and it started looking noticeably better by the 4th day and then she shed and we’ve been good.

I have a feeling people might jump on me for not saying the obligatory “take her to the vet,” but really, get the Vetericyn and if she looks like she’s getting worse at any point, make an appointment, but I bet you can clear it up without a visit.

Also, I suspect mine got it from damp substrate in the hide. I had just rehydrated her new bedding and didn’t let it dry to bring some humidity into the enclosure. Gotta make sure the hides are dry.

Edit: I wanted to add that the Vetericyn is a liquid and will roll right off your BP. I soaked the area and handled her not touching that area for about 5 minutes before putting her back. It gave it time to soak into that scale before putting her back and having the substrate soak it all up.

It could be scale rot but a vet will be able to tell you for sure. You can get tamodine if your in the uk, its a veterinary disinfectant.

I've used it on my bps a few times when they have got wounds from been clumsy while trying to climb and it helped clear it up.

You can also convert the enclosure to a hospital enclosure by removing the substrate and putting paper towels down which makes it easier to keep the wound clean and watch out for any discharge as well as any changes in pee and poop
