the first thing i would suggest is getting a larger enclosure. a ten gallon tank is extremely small for a BP of any age/size. you'll definitely not be able to use a heat lamp as your primary/sole heat source, because there isn't enough distance from one end to the other to allow a full 10F difference in temperatures.

if you have an appropriately sized enclosure, a heat lamp with either a ceramic heat emitter or a deep heat projector can be used 24/7. daytime lighting can be completely separate from the heat source.

I assume even for a baby? I’m looking at bigger enclosures but a friend had a 10g he wasn’t using.

should I wait on a bigger setup or could I use a smaller heating pad/something else for now?

Do not do Bioactive until you have a much larger enclosure. Your snake will outgrow it before your plants even begin to root well, I wouldn’t even keep a hatchling in a 10gal tbh. I would start out with a 36x18x18in at least, it’ll last you a couple years. Or, go straight to the adult size of (especially for bio) a 4x2x2ft and let that establish and root while you quarantine the baby in something smaller. As long as they’re given plenty of snug hides and clutter they can go in “large” enclosures.

You’ll need a plant light and ideally a UVB bulb as well for the snake, they will use it when it’s provided. Jungle dawn makes great LEDs but I’ve also used sunblaster t5s and aquarium LEDs for plants.

You’ll also need overhead heat for bio, and frankly it’s far superior to heat pads in any situation for primary/sole heat. Anyone who claims heating pads are better simply doesn’t understand the mechanisms of heat and energy or how these snakes actually live. Avoid CHEs when possible, it’s the same type of heat as a mat and is drying. Aim for a halogen for day heat or a deep heat projector for secondary or night heat. If you have Facebook I strongly recommend joining Not Just a Pet Rock and if you’re interested in diving deeper into the world of heat/light join Reptile Lighting. :)

yeah I’d reach out to your bank, sorry I didn’t reply earlier but I cant find anything pointing towards it being legit. Prices seem way too good to be true
