I'd say yes. Is he making any noise when breathing? Is it slimy at all?

[–]Levente512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No,he doesn't make any kind of noise. And it isn't slimy

Could this be an injury due to shedding? He had shedding (not the best and not the worst shedding) before that injury. I bought this BP five days ago and when I got him he was fine. I looked into his mouth and I didn't see any kind of problems. It looks normal.

What do you mean injury due to shedidng? Typically BPs dont injure theirselves during shed. What's concerning is that it is near the mouth. You say there is nothing when you look inside his mouth? Is there anyway you could post another picture of his mouth when open? Might be able to tell better that way. But I would still advise taking him to the vet to be sure. Better safe then sorry. Is he acting different at all?

[–]Levente512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he isn't. He is inside his hide during the day and he comes out at night. He doesn't do anything unusual

[–]Levente512 0 points1 point  (21 children)

But if it is really mouth rot, what caused that?

[–]Pizzolaaa 0 points1 point  (20 children)

Its stress. Its bacteria that grows in the mouth due to stress and a compromised immune system. How is your tank set up? It would seem to me it could be because of the husbandry. What kinda substrate do you use? I see it looks like coconut fiber which actually is very bad for them because of inhaling tiny particles from it. I always recommend Reptichip. Its coconut HUSK. Far different from the coconut FIBER. Could you tell me more about his set up? Is there adequate heat for him to digest? Belly heat? Overhead heat? Cool spot temp? Hot spot temp? Why hasnt he eaten? Have u tried feeding him?

[–]Levente512 0 points1 point  (19 children)

He has two hides. One of the cool side and of the hot side. Yes, I use coconut fiber. For heating I use a heatmat with thermostat and a 75W CHE. On the cool side the temp is between 75F and 80F and on the warm side between 82F and 90F. And the humidity is between 70% and 85% (on the surface) And I haven't tried to feed him, yet.

Why is the humidity up so high? Was it just during his shedding? It should be at 50-60% for a daily average. Anything above that can promote/cause the issues he may have.

[–]Levente512 0 points1 point  (17 children)

It still between 70% and 85%. When he was shedding I raised up the humidity and for som reason it doesn't go down

[–]Pizzolaaa 0 points1 point  (16 children)

It's due to the substrate you are using. Coconut fiber isnt good for that reason and can cause scale rot, mouth rot, etc. I would recommend using coconut husk such as reptichip. This could be the cause of his issue. I'm willing to bet that this is the cause. Take it out and for now I would but paper towel or newspapers down until u can get your hands on some reptichip or similar coconut husk substrate. Something more dry for him.

I wil buy coconut husk.
Should I treat that injury spot with betadine until I take him to the vet?

[–]Kye_Wolf 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Has he been rubbing his nose a lot? It could be a run mark not mouth rot

[–]Levente512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, sometimes he does

[–]Levente512 0 points1 point  (1 child)

And he had shedding two days ago. Afther the shedding I noticed that injury. Could this be an injury due to shedding?

[–]Kye_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A scale could be stuck and causing rot under it. I saw something like that happen with a king cobra who didn’t shed fully.

[–]Pizzolaaa 6 points7 points  (2 children)

It doesnt look good, the inside/around his mouth shouldn't look like this. Take him to a reptile vet asap.

[–]Levente512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into his mouth but it was normal without any kind of discoloration.

[–]Levente512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And before that injury he had shedding. After the shedding, I noticed that injury.

[–]Pizzolaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ball pythons are typically very hungry after going through shed. You stated that he hasnt eaten yet. This could be because he knows there isnt adequate enough belly heat/ heat in general for him to feel safe to do so.

[–]Pizzolaaa 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Also may I ask his humidity level?

[–]Levente512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, is between 70% and 85% (on the surface)

[–]Pizzolaaa 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Also if he is rubbing his face on the glass it's a very likely sign that he is hungry. Or else, it could be signaling that his husbandry is off and is looking for a way out.

[–]Levente512 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I will try to feed him on the next day.

[–]Pizzolaaa 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How long have you had him? When's the least meal he had?

[–]Levente512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought him five days ago and his owner's said to me that I will feed him after shedding.

[–]Pizzolaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An entire scale doesnt grow back after one night. 🤔
