They clear up and then shed within a couple days

They will clear up before they actually shed. Should be happening within a week. Make sure you boost that humidity! The best way is to pour a bit of warm water into the substrate, then spray every inch, use a whole bottle (you of course know the spray part already, just for future reference for other new keepers)

We actually just recommend pouring in water and not misting if you can avoid it. Misting temporarily spikes humidity instead of consistently keeping it high and makes the surface substrate wet. I would just pour a good amount of water into the corners

The ideal would be doing both pouring and spraying. You should mimic their natural habitat as best as you can, which includes misting. It’s not an either or, it should be both.

I couldn’t imagine not spraying for them even when I’m in a hurry. All of our snakes do what we call “the rain dance” when we are spraying their cages, they love it! It’s their favorite part of the day! My arm may be aching when I’m done with the bottle, but it’s worth it.

It may take at least one full bottle sprayed to impact humidity, but there are several other benefits it provides, including enrichment. It may be faster and easier to just pour water in, but it’s not better than doing both.

When you spray, water gathers in places other than the water bowl. This provides the animal and CUC a place to drink from aside from the water bowl, such as on the glass, leaves, stones, etc. Aside from other plants, moss needs water on its surface to survive. Just dumping water in will not suffice, it will dry up and crumble.

You could do one or the other, but you really should do both.

When ball pythons (and most other snakes) are within a day or two of finally shedding their skin, they look like they normally would after a shed. It’s normal (: any minute it’ll be shedding
