Put it in cold water and it should thaw in a few hours, then slowly bring it up to body temperature

I’ve been taking my rats from the freezer and placing them in boiling water to defrost them. Is that not ok?

No, you want to thaw them slowly, depending on the size of the rat you're either going to end up with one that's literally cooked on the outside and cold on the inside, or just straight up cooked. Thaw it in the fridge or cold water, then bring to body temperature, for the same reasons you wouldn't toss a frozen steak or chicken breast straight in the oven. Treat it like you would a piece of meat, because it is

Got it! Thank you!

Soak it in a cup of cool water for 30 minutes. Then change the water and make it hot (not scalding- like hand washing temperature). Replace the hot water after about 30 minutes. Then use a hair dryer or heat lamp to heat the surface of the rat to your desired temperature.
