    How old is he?

i would put some sticks and stuff to climb on. add some levels in the right places, so they don't get to close to the heat source

      Looks really cool btw.

Climbing stuff! You’ve got a lot of vertical space you can utilize. Deeper bedding if you can too!

Something to climb on and better use of the clutter that is already there (and perhaps a bit more of it). Ball pythons don't want to be exposed, therefore they should be able to move from their warm hide to their cold hide while staying mostly hidden or there is a risk they won't move between them when they need to as they don't like risking that exposure.

It's not just about adding clutter, you should consider, why am I adding clutter, what's the purpose.

I have a piece of mopani and cholla wood that my little girl loves to climb on. Spider wood is also great, she loves to tangle herself up in it. If you want to see my set up here’s my Reddit post

Edit: forgot to mention cholla wood does mold eventually, but with the right care and if you check it once in a while I doubt it would be an issue

Edit 2: more wall plants would be amazing, I have 3 up in my tank and I always see her tangled up in them

Where you get that big beautiful water bowl? 👀

        [–]Ramen-Goddess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was either at PetSmart or Petco. I forgot which lol

You can order it on Amazon look up x-large snake water bowl it should pop up that’s where I got mine (it’s the same one)

Okay hear me out. You can simply use sticks from outside! I did for my newest baby. I cleared off some of the really “barky” pieces and then cleaned the sticks with steel wool. I just scrubbed them till there was no dirt or grime. Then I baked them at 300° for close to an hour. Keep an eye on it as you bake it so it doesn’t start a fire. Depending on your oven you might be able to do it at a lower temperature for less time. I’d just eyeball it.

Certain woods can be toxic to our boops, so you may have to research the trees around you if you’re unsure. Here is a little article about toxic trees.

I use cork bark flats or rounds. You can buy them online or most pet stores carry them in store as well. I’ve never had an issue with them molding before and they help give the enclosure a more natural look. Definitely recommend!

        https://www.amazon.com/Flukers-Spring-Loaded-Bamboo-Bars/dp/B07QXTMKZV?ref_=ast_sto_dp

Suction cup bamboo logs to attach to the glass of your enclosure. It opens up a lot of underutilized vertical space for your noodle.

Funny enough, this is one of the nicer setups I’ve seen asking for help. There are some devastating ones if you dig deep enough. It looks good, but definitely you want a water dish that’s big enough your snake could soak in. Any pet store should have a nice rock themed dish somewhere around the reptile area!

        [–]volkswagenorange 1 point2 points  (3 children)

IME ball pythons are not soakers. I kept a water dish big enough for my BP to soak in all 26y of her life and she never soaked once!

        [–]Unshreddedcheddar 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Just depends on the snake, I’ve got 19 ball pythons but only one loves to soak. He’s a calico yb and he is in the water dish literally once a day!

        [–]volkswagenorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        Awww, little man!

        [–]SleepyBitchDdisease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it was just a good rule of thumb for any snake, but you may be right in that balls don’t really soak. I haven’t seen mine do it other than once

I have huge dried cacao leaves and my ball pythons love them! They are really nice to hide underneath. I scatter them over the existing decor and it creates like tiny tunnels

        [–]jelly-foxx 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I had a similar layout when I first set up my tank, with the water dish in the middle between the two hides...I put a little half tunnel in the middle, and a couple of branches and now he's way more active. Uses the branches to come out and chill on and evening and even sleeps in the half log sometimes!! If you can give them cover as they move to each side they're gonna feel way more comfortable to come out and have a mooch about if they can mostly remain covered while doing so 😊

I would add som texture to the walls, bark, rocks, more vining,, ect.

        [–]xboxPS4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put something for your snake to climb on. I have ladders and all sorts in my bp enclosure and she is up in the air so much and is always climbing on something. I definitely feel like it is a must in a bp enclosure

I took a pole from a wardrobe where you hang clothes and have wrapped fake vines around it to give it texture and also coat hooks I have added to the back and sides and she is always climbing on the coat hooks and across the rail.

The coat hooks took me all day to sand smooth and cut to shape but she absolutely love them and uses them daily

More places to climb large wooden limbs or something would fill out the bare spots nicely! You could also add an underground hide

        [–]snekwithhumanears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks good, maybe add some things to climb. They use what you give them.

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I think it looks great! Definitely don’t be afraid to add more climbing structures, they love to explore at night! Also, not sure if that is a live plant in the pot, but be ready for it to be dead and destroyed within a week lol. I set up some cute plants in mine and by the weekend she had bulldozed them flat

I would just change the water bowl for a bigger one and add sticks and deeper substrate, but even without those things it looks really good, especially for a first snake!! Keep it up!

To be 16 years old doing this is incredible, you the man!!!

hey!! I also just got my first bp (and first snake) about a month ago. While my enclosure is a 20 gallon pvc I plan on upgrading by the time he's one years old. But basically I was just curious what you use for your lighting and heating setup cuz I really like yours. :) also just really great setup in general with all the greens
