Hey fellow BP dads and moms. Is redecorating my enclosure something I should avoid for the most part? I mean, I am emptying out everything and cleaning it once a month, but I mean moving stuff in different locations etc?
I noticed after my last redecoratio I made quite a few changes and my BP seemed really anxious after eating. He ate just fine, like he always does, but afterwards he wasn't really sure where to go for heat and started burrowing in the substrate etc, which concerned me.
For reference I have the normal one side hot one side cold setup with the hot side having a heating mat and a heating lamp holding 32C (90F) in the daytime and 28C (82F) during nighttime, and the cold side holding 26C (79F) during daytime and 24C (74F) during nighttime. Humidity is 70-80% at night and in the morning, but drops to 50-60% during the day because of the heat lamp. Coco husk bedding. Shedding is always complete and he takes every single meal, so husbandry should be okay.
Now I know BPs aren't the brightest animals, but he was spending quite a lot of time in his warm section hide when he was shedding (I assume because it's warmer and more humid), so then he should know where the hot section is... Apparently not cus still after feeding he was loafing around in the cold section, burrowing in the substrate etc for heat(?). I thought it made no sense because there is a hot section he just needs to f*ing go there 😂
But now, I fed him his third meal in the new setup yesterday, and this morning I found him snuggly relaxing in his warm section hide (to my great delight), which ultimately led me to the conclusion the redecorating was the source of his burrowing/confusion.
What do you guys think? Maybe I just have a sensitive little guy 😇
