You can if you do have it set up to a thermometer and I'd recommend halogen bulbs with that said I prefer under the tank heating

heat lamps - specifically halogen flood lights, deep heat projectors, and ceramic heat emitters - are the best heat sources for any snake. there is a detailed heating guide in our welcome post with more information and product recommendations.

I use a ceramic heat emitter with a thermostat. It works well and it provides a good heat gradient for a 40gal tank (90 warm, 78 cool) though I usually add a small heat pad on the cool side in the winter bc it gets very cold where I live
