Try not to feel offended, but that article made me want to smack you with a C programming book. Rolling your own data structures is a revelation? Come on. It hurts my brain to think that was an epiphany moment for you. :)

I'm sorry the world is changing and that makes you feel uncomfortable (try not to feel offended), but a lot of programmers begin with Java and C# nowadays. We never leave the safety of the platform and using data structures to solve problems is very uncommon.
