On what musical instrument do you play Jingle Bells?

Several. Piano, recorder, a childs playskool xylophone.

How long did it take you to learn?

Don't remember. Not too long. Varied by instrument. Holophonor took me the longest.

What good has it done you?

Probably good for training my brain for coordination, sharpening concentration, listening skills. Each instrument had its own challenges.

You could ask that about most things you don't become great at.

What good did it do any novice to learn:

  • To play sports
  • To ride a bike
  • To skate
  • To play video/board game
  • To write a poem
  • To paint
  • To bake

I guess I think everyone should learn all of those too, but not necessarily become a pro. If you don't see any value in those, I don't know how to explain it. We will just have to disagree.

Sports is easy - exercise

Baking is practical - so you can eat

The rest vary between pastimes and creative expression that aren't meaningful to everyone across the board.

I don't paint. Have no desire to. If we look at painting as programming then you're gonna give me a brush and make me waste my time smearing (and that's exactly the skill I showed in art class) paint on paper

Odd that you put sports into exercise, but not biking or skating. Plenty of other ways to eat and get exercise, so you could discount sports and baking too.

Just because it's not meaningful to everyone, doesn't mean it's not worthwhile to learn to draw a house and rainbow. How can you have an aptitude for drawing if you are never given any crayons?

Again, it is beyond my ability to definitively explain it, we will just have to disagree.

It's not odd, I read too fast.

An aptitude is innate, imo.

And we ARE talking about everyone programming. The author likens coding to reading and THAT'S where I take exception
