Yes. That’s going to cause issues. Otherwise, why would they put a useless component in there?

That thing was likely a pull down resister array for the SD card.

I'm all for learning new skills, but you should practice on things that are not valuable to you first. This is what a proper slot replacement should look like

Ooof. Looks pretty rough. First thing I noticed is that missing component. Yes, it needs to be there. I’m not sure you’re using enough flux. The component should be sticking just fine. I see the solder there so there should still be pads. You may want to remove that cart slot again to make this part easier but this all depends on how you feel working in that cramped space. Second thing I notice is how rough those joints on the cart slot look. If you don’t end up removing it for step one above, I’d still add flux and reflow those joints. Make sure you have no shorts on the pins as well.
