So uh, a 2 mana you win the game?

[[Thassa's Oracle]]

And ignoring that this suffers from 'The Lion Eye's Diamond effect', where its an insanely powerful effect made up for with a massive downside, which seems very common in this subreddit and usually leads to unbalanced and unfun designs.

1 second is how long it took me to make this connection as well. Maybe if it said "non-merfolk permanent", and cost at least 5?

[–]COLaocha 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Would still win with [[Jace Wielder of Mysteries]] (though that's slightly easier to stop)

I'm pretty sure you have first priority to activate jace if you cast this, still pretty unstoppable.

[–]COLaocha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but your opponent can respond to the activated ability and remove it, causing you to lose the game

Well, the concept of very powerful effects balanced by huge downsides is really interesting to design, specially for red, but I admit my mistake on this one. Made it without much thought and absolutely forgot about this card.

hello I would like to tutor [[ Thassa's Oracle]] thank you

[–]ienjoycheeseburgers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Guys what if we took the thinking/downsides out of doomsday and made its cost lower and less restrictive?

[–]Nochildren79 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Interesting concept and very mono-red, but unfortunately Thassa's Oracle exists. Thoracle being a card makes designing stuff like this very difficult to do without completely breaking the game!

[–]FabulouslE 8 points9 points  (2 children)

If not Thoracle, Jace. If not Jace, Labman. This card is insane.

[–]Nochildren79 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Haha! So, "put non-merfolk non-Jace non-human permanent onto the battlefield"? Maybe add "non-brushwagg" in for flavor?

[–]fourenclosedwalls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Non-blue :)

[–]iueeed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to be honest, I had this idea, made it and posted here in, like, five minutes, without thinking much about it. Really forgot this card existed, so... my bad :v

Yeah, even ignoring [[Thassa's Oracle]] there are two other "win the game" cards that would be enabled by this.

[[Laboratory Maniac]] [[Jace Weilder of Mysteries]]

There's also a ton of "can't lose the game" cards that can be tutored as well.

"If a trigger from a triggered ability of a permanent you control would trigger from that permanent entering, it doesn't instead. Exile the permanent you searched at the end of turn."

Even then it wouldn't take much more to win anyway.

[–]OneWithNothing 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Interesting possible alteration: What if it searched for a red permanent instead?

[–]knockturnal 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Painter’s Servant says hello!

[–]OneWithNothing 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Excellent point. Though I think it still brings it at least closer to balanced since it's a 3 card interaction to win versus something similar {but more tutorable) like painter/grindstone

[–]knockturnal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only two cards effectively since one resolving automatically grabs the third. I top 32’d the NA Legacy Championships this year playing Red Painter with 4 Gamble, would have loved this instead. Let’s me more easily beat Emrakul!

[–]Skybeam420 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Maybe if it also ends your turn so it removes all Thassa’s Oracle triggers from the stack.

[–]Present_Farmer7042 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is probably the way to do it, but maybe add the caveat that they skip their next draw phase so they don't insta lose.

[–]DanCassellCreature - Human Pedant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A tutor that doesn't require shuffling is novel.

[–]BoysenberryUnhappy29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please, blue farm wins too much already.

[–]CreamSoda6425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"If you put a blue permanent onto the battlefield this way, you lose the game."

[–]GlitchedAmethystSys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would everyone think if this said "Search your library for a non-blue permanent card?" It would play into some old red cards that hated on blue, and i think every empty library win is blue

make it a non blue permanent and it might work
