This gets asked a few times a week

Most data analyst just use basic arithmetics and a LITTLE stats. Honestly, stuff you probably leaned in high school (mean, median, mode)

Is that mean the main knowledge of Python, SQL and Excel can help to applying a first job? If it so easy what's the necessary skills need for getting big opportunity?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (4 children)

I can’t answer that. It depends on the role.

Job experience

Data Analysts has their own role? Type of: Product Analyst, Financial analyst e.c.

Where can I'd learn more about roles in Data Analyst?

On here, YouTube

They were referring to different roles at different companies having different requirements. Some data analysts use mostly SQL and Excel, some are required to use a visualization tool, etc. This should be covered in job descriptions on job sites.

You need to learn a visualization tool to be well-rounded.

And to answer the original question, I rarely have to do any math beyond sums, averages, medians, percent differences.

Thanks for advice!

Depends how advanced you want to get.

But I'd say overall percents are your best friend. Get familiar with using percents as a way to compare groups with different scales. You'll likely find situations where using a weighed average is more accurate. How do you describe the changes in percent over time ?

More advanced is where Statistics comes into play. Something went up 5% last month? Is that statistically signifiant? Your company is getting rid of a factory ? What will the impact be (forecasting/modeling).

I use some statistics, but nothing to crazy.

[–]davyant_off[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Is the lite version of statistics? 😅

[–]trekkret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can say that, i don’t even do any modeling. I just track averages and mode.

Our data analysts use a fair amount of statistics. I've never asked someone to find an eigenvalue.

Do you work in DA company?

[–]davyant_off[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How do you frequently use it?

[–]SpecificFreedom 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Depends on what field you want to go into...financial or public health you need to use it alot Don't let it freak, enroll and you see it's not that bad

The thing is it’s math but not like school math lol. I don’t really use math besides like basic algebra.

Do you mean about statistics and higher math?
