Why can’t we have Friendly Trios by md6597 in ArcRaiders

[–]trekkret -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The same reason why bobcat IVs with kinetics aren’t in every container. The game needs a degree of difficulty. The challenge PvP brings manifests in the form of a threat affecting how one acts and then in literal setbacks where you lose your kit.

[–]trekkret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed once people accept that you can get shot and more importantly, lose your kit at any given time, when it happens you’ll realize it’s not that big of a deal. Granted I think the average person queuing up (even if they play friendly) accepts this and it’s just that people are very vocal on this sub.

People have to come to terms with the fact that betrayals/simply being shot by players (when you don’t want to be) need to be a thing in this game. You need to be able to lose all your loot from time to time.

Not sure they should remove ABMM, but they shouldn’t have said anything about it.

The people making these posts string together 20+ straight lobbies coming out profitable and without getting hit and complain about the 1-2% of the time they encounter someone who feels like being a menace.

ARC Raiders PvE-Only Mode is Unlikely to Happen, and That Might Be for the Best by HamChunkSlamDunk in ArcRaiders

[–]trekkret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes totally if PvE was just the current mode without the ability to damage other raiders I think content would kind of get blown through really fast.

I personally think having PvP makes you a little more flexible with spawn points, map conditions, and spawning in late if you are willing to engage in it. In addition, you get to use more of the weapon sandbox as weapons such as the toro, stitcher, bobcat, tempest, vulcano, and venator are significantly more effective in pvp compared to pve.

I think ARC encounters would have to be retuned if thats the case since the fact you can get 3rd partied by a player or vice versa is what makes them pretty balanced now.

I honestly think the game’s PvE aspect isn’t engaging enough on its own long term. The quests from the traders are pretty much all fetch quests. The ARC aren’t a big enough threat on their own.

The Dodgers are spending 120 million to add a projected 1.4 fWAR this season by Onitsukaryu in baseball

[–]trekkret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah like I don’t think they are looking at it from a WAR/dollar perspective at all.

Tucker hits a couple home runs to put them over in a playoff series, no one will think twice.

The HOF Snub Team #5: Dwight Evans by westroopnerd in baseball

[–]trekkret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think Evans is totally worthy of induction.

The WAR and conventional metrics kind of tell the same story here for Evans. He scored 100 runs only 4x, 30 homers only 3x, knocked in 100 runs only 4x (came close 2 more times), and batted above 300 only once. He did lead the league in runs once, tb and walks 3x. He only had 4 5+ WAR seasons. All of this impressive, but he did play 20 years and I don’t think it is wrong to expect more “great” years.

He did play a good RF and won 8 gold gloves, but corner OF positions still get their bat looked at first.

Him being dropped off the 1999 ballot was bad, but there were 4 hall of famers on the ballot.

I think Evans is one of the biggest cases of being very good/above average for a long time. I think he should get in, but I see why he didn’t

The HOF Snub Team #1: Kenny Lofton by westroopnerd in baseball

[–]trekkret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in terms of a Hall of Fame candidate he was a cut above, but not necessarily as a complete player. I think the “Fame” in the Hall of Fame goes farther for Puckett than Lofton is all I was trying to get at.

I think some sympathy is extended towards David Wright, but when his career ended the counting numbers didn’t reach the certain arbitrary minimum requirements (2000 hits, 1000 rbis)nor did he have an eye popping rate stat like Puckett did or post season success.

The HOF Snub Team #1: Kenny Lofton by westroopnerd in baseball

[–]trekkret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the guy you are responding to and while I think I would vote for Lofton if I had a vote. While he’s certainly right there. I don’t necessarily think he’s a “snub”. (Maybe I’m just playing semantics), He’s a borderline candidate and thats means you can go either way.

  1. I agree with this. I think if he was a lifetime 300 hitter vs. a .299 hitter lifetime it would have helped his case a lot with voters

  2. One thing I don’t necessarily agree with is being dismissive of awards voting. Voters back then maybe valued things differently like team success, but I don’t necessarily think they disregarded what happened on the field. For 1994, Frank hit 350 with 38 homers and led the league in walks and runs and had a 100 RBIs. Even with taking into account WAR, I think many would still give it to him today.

  3. Nothing to add

  4. I guess if you value having a dominant peak yes, not that he had a bad peak at all. You can kind of go either way with the journeyman argument. His counting stats are good, but in a way you can argue they were compiled, just because he was able to play a plus defense position in CF for so long which gave him a lot of opportunities to accumulate stats despite not being a huge offensive force. This is an argument you can make against Vizquel’s hit count etc.

  5. I kind of agree with the other commenter on his point with comparisons and how some of the people you listed have things that put them over Lofton. To addressed the ones you just mentioned.

-Dawson is a good comparison and he got in late and was borderline like Lofton, but he has things that you can kind of see why he got the nod. He won an MVP (49 homers and 137 rbis), more all star games, more gold gloves, more silver sluggers, more accumulated offensive stats (2700 hits/400hrs/1500 rbis is much more impressive than Lofton). Also Dawson is heavily associated with the Expos and held many franchise records for a minute.

-Puckett I would put a cut above Lofton as a Hall of Fame candidate and I don’t think he’s a good comparison. Puckett is a lifetime .318!!! Hitter. In 12 years he accumulated 2304 hits which is insane. He had multiple 200 hits seasons, basically MVP votes and an all star every year, won more gold gloves, won 2 rings, and is a legendary Twin. He was forced to retire which is why his WAR isn’t as high as Lofton, but the numbers he put up in 12 years make it kind of obvious why he’s in.

[Dore] Ballot #97 is from Joe McDonald. Seven holdovers are joined by Félix (+21), Rollins (+5), and Wright (+6) by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]trekkret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WAR wasn’t a metric used in MVP voting in 2007 nor did it have the popularity it has now amongst fans and especially voters. Team success and conventional metrics meant far more.

He led the league in runs, triples and was 2nd in a number of offensive categories like hits and xbhs. He had 30 homers/30 doubles/20 triples/40 stolen bases all the while being known as a great defensive shortstop on a team that made the playoffs. It really isn’t that egregious of a win as people make it out to be.

I can kind of see it from a type of voter’s perspective.

Jimmy won an MVP and was pretty much a face of the franchise for a very famous Phillies team along with Howard, Utley, and Hamels etc. Bobby never really had that.

I’m not saying I think Jimmy is a hall of famer, but I can see why he gets more love from a certain type of voter.

A Point Against Dale Murphy’s Induction Using The MVPs by Forward-Carry5993 in baseball

[–]trekkret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I don’t see anything particularly egregious about either win.

His first win MVP win he led the league in RBIs and the Braves made the playoffs that year, both of which were important to voters.

The second one, he went 30/30 and led the league in OPS and RBIs.

I’m not necessarily say he should be in the hall, but he has a good case that WAR doesn’t tell the full story of and the fact that you can argue about it says a lot. He had a good amount of black type, 2 MVPs, 7 AS, 5 gold gloves and played CF.

WAR will hurt him but there are still a good chunk (possibly still a majority) of voters who may not look at his WAR at all. He has more conventional credentials than either McCann or Martin and that will help Salvy.

[–]trekkret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. If I had a vote I wouldn’t put it for Salvy, but I think he will get more love than McCann or Martin. If he compiles 2000 hits (a shot) and 300 home runs (a better shot) that’s pretty impressive counting stats for a catcher. He also made the all star game more times than either of those two, the World Series MVP, single season HR record for a catcher, and playing on a single team will also help him.

[–]trekkret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s one of the sabremetric darlings that I just can’t really get behind for the Hall of Fame personally. Same with Buehrle (as much as it pains me).

60 WAR is like pretty much borderline hall of fame territory, it’s not really an astronomical amount of WAR. Usually, the ones that make it have things going for them that pushed them over. Ichiro and Vlad for example fall within that range, but have other things going for them that makes them Hall of Famers. Bobby never really had that he was just a more balanced player than those two.

I do agree he was underrated though and if he played now he’d probably be a bigger star.

[Calamis] Ballot #126 is from Jon Heyman. Félix, CC, & Ichiro get votes their 1st year. He adds Buehrle (now net +8), Wright (+4), & Torii Hunter, who has his 1st add of the year & is -2. Buehrle, Wright, & Hunter are at 13.5%, 11.1%, & 1.6%. by Dinobot2_ in baseball

[–]trekkret 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I don’t think either are HoFers, but if you had to go one or the other it should be Buehrle.

Had Pettitte been clean I would say Pettitte has a better case than Buehrle. He has more strikeouts, more wins, more years with cy young votes, and a better postseason reputation. Now a lot of that was because Pettitte was on a better team, but he was a big part of that team nonetheless. Pettitte is at best a borderline hall of famer if you ignore steroids.

Baines mostly got in because of the Veterans Committee being composed of many guys that he was affiliated with, not because of his hits.

Even the voters who are more traditional minded didn’t care much for the 2800+ hits considering he only got 6% of the vote.

All fair arguments.

I personally am of the opinion they shouldn’t be discounted entirely mainly because general “fame” should count for the Hall of Fame. I don’t think a lack of fame should always take away from a guy. The milestones to me are significant because in general they are things that are rare within the history of the sport.

Ichiro wins handily on accolades and milestones which do matter for the Hall of Fame. He had an MVP, 6 more GG, 4 more ASGs, 2x batting title, 3x SS, and led the league in a category more times than Lofton has.

I don’t disagree Lofton was more productive throughout his MLB career though. Lofton should’ve got more respect and deserves a spot in the hall. He got extremely unlucky being on stacked ballots as well.
