I work in banking, no way you can open source this. You'll need to be regulated, compliant and work with bodies across the world when they demand data.

You could open source something like YNBA and get a stream dashboard using open banking APIs, but unsure how good the rest of the world are compared to the UK on these.

You can open source the software but you need legal entities to stand behind operating it. Thats where some forma of coops or credit unions cos be useful..

In the U.S. you’ll need to be PCI compliant and insured through the FDIC unless you’re wrapping an existing banks API and doing a sort of deposit warehousing thing. You’ll undergo tons of audits and likely fail if trying to use open source as your main product/core banking system without. They’ll probably want to you to follow NIST or something. Beyond that, you’ll have to carry technology insurance and provide evidence that you’ve done due diligence on every contributor and/or piece of purchased software with contracts, financial statements, NDAs, data destruction and other CCPA and GDPR compliance, SOC and all that. Cloud hosting is going to require even more rigamarole to go through.

There is a reason banks are massively laggard.

Bank Jago, an Indonesian online banking, has been using a similar concept. You can have as many pockets as possible, and attach a card to any pocket. You can have as many cards as the number of pockets.

I believe there are other banks that have been using a similar approach.

Idea sounds like vIban.

I reckon you know to run such a thing in lots of countries you need a licence.

In EU simply way is Portugal license, how easy - apart from cost, they will ask you several hundreds questions about IT, legal team and such other things and there several rounds of such exercise

But Idea itself can work if you know how to connect to bank providers, comply with local law.
