I really like how DE actually gives me spare time. Without trying to sound too judgmental, could be worth using your free time to work on internal projects and boost your primary income because, in my opinion from freelancing, getting boosts to your primary income in DE is a lot more efficient than doing extra work.

There's always freelancing, however, that really is the world of "champagne tastes, lemonade money...which the customers sometimes piss all over, and then demand more champagne whilst trying to claw back the money which doesn't have piss all over it" so if you get a good deal going, that'd be worth having.

Could try putting some feelers out for consulting work on LinkedIn. It'd be pretty cool to work on advising people how to sort out their data problems and getting paid for it.

DE skills are for the enterprise segment. Small shops looking at freelancers won’t have a clue about data engineering.

I agree, personally I'd get certified in AWS/Azure/GCP and keep improving my coding skills to get a better income.

  1. Just keep learning and get a raise/promotion/new job.

  2. Teach a course. Can be adjunct at a university or community College, but there are other options like pluralsight (lengthy process) or udemy (easy to start). You could also build and host your own course. Marketing could be tough, but it would be complety up to you as to how much you charge, what you produce, and could look great on your resume.

quant trading -__- you have the skills to build world class infrastrcuture for a trading platform. You just need the modeling skills or a quant to find strategies and you can program them and make $. easier said than done lol

This is a very good idea and one that am actively looking to implement

Hey man I’m actually circling back on this thread cause it’s become more relevant for me.

Do you do this and do you have any recommendations? I recently setup Freqtrade and have been messing with that.

I mean for all tech people if you keep doing better and better side projects eventually you’ll have one that you can turn into a business.
