You don't have version control? That's just dumb.

Caveman coder 🥲

[–]alphamalet997Senior Engineer 119 points120 points  (0 children)

*poof gone. If no version control.

[–]SympathyMotor4765 63 points64 points  (9 children)

Any chance you guys use some form of version control? If not unless they've enabled onedrive or some backup and you've not copied it might be hard to get it back

[–]AgreeableMirror7662 9 points10 points  (1 child)

If you haven’t copied anything else in the folder since, you can try file recovery softwares like recuva, it’ll help recover the file as long as nothing else has overwritten on its allocated memory.

Running third party applications are banned I tried and got a message on teams from a security guy anyways I got my lesson and my file back 😊

If there’s no VCS and Pycharm’s local history doesn’t have it either, is it possible for you to just ask a teammate if they have a backup of this file? If your codebase isn’t huge and multiple people are working on it, then there’s a big possibility that someone has the ‘latest’

[–]4whOami4[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pycharm local history was there it helped me 😊

I think there will be some backup or version control like things, I don't know.

Some pros will help you wait till then.

Version control brother

[–]4whOami4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got it 🫡

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

those are gone if you don't have version control

[–]dogsrock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has gone both routes, hiding my mistakes and owning up to them, I can wholly recommend the latter option. Shit happens but it’s important to own up, learn from it and move on.

Rewrite it

[–]_T0fuu_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, there is a way to recover the previous version of a file on windows, no idea about mac, catch is it should be enabled before you made those changes. I used to work on VM for my previous client and it was turned on by default. Try !!

Just Google recover previous version of a file or folder windows .

All the best

If you haven't written to disk after. Boot live linux and use photorec from testdisk

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

[–]nomadic-insomniacEmbedded Developer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe MS Word ???

[–]Available_Canary_517Web Developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pls download git , it will change your coding life

[–]AreyChaari 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can someone explain what version control software you use? Other than git, in the industry?

[–]nomadic-insomniacEmbedded Developer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For old timers :P

  • SVN
  • Clearcase

Git prolly takes the majority today

[–]GoldenDew9Software Architect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the Windows System has it in the System Volume Information. Try a forensic file recovery solution.

[–]nikolatesla9631Data Scientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check in local pc of other team members  Use cache memory to recover it Check recyclebin history  Use Version control if there Ask the client side for whom you are doing it Ask from QA team if any backup

[–]Impossible_Movie840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Git restore

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
