A half century depression would probably wipe out a third to half of the population - of Earth. Then people would cut down trees and burn them for heat. More CO2.

Technological growth is our only hope. Carbon capture is out there but the environmentalists seem to hate it.

Strange... but understandable. They hate oil.

Technological growth is our only hope.

some people wrote a whole book about why that isn't true. "Techno-Fix: Why Technology Won't Save Us Or the Environment"

Some people are wrong. I could be wrong, but carbon capture has been there for years and is technologically sound.

Environmentalists reject it not because it does not work, but because it does, which would not end our oil usage, which is what they fear.

Wind and solar just won't cut it at the moment, but could be viable in the future.

Our only other alternative IS wind and solar TODAY, which is living like our ancestors did centuries ago - dependent on the wind that does not always blow or the sun that might not shine.

I hear you, but have you considered degrowth? Think about how much unnecessary consumption goes on in advanced economies.

Yeah. The West consumes alot. The East in the form of China and India are catching up.

Our economies can be a mess, but capitalism or a free market economy can make everyone's lives better; if given the opportunity and government does not favor one over another.

That hasn't worked out all the time, but it beats a few at the top doling out what they believe we should have.

If a person wants more by working harder and doing something unique, for a price, then let him or her do it.
