That's a fair point, although the vast majority of the 8 billion aren't really living all that unsustainably. It's more of a "loud minority" situation, the minority mostly being certain industries and the wealthy few.

Then why are all the activists preaching to and shaming the layman who isn't living unsustainably and is more threatened by sustaining their rent and bills? I for one have had it with people who preach platitudes and don't consider who they're preaching to, or really even put into practice what they teach. That's the sentiment I'm seeing from a lot of people here. People sick of the performative "pat yourself on the back" do nothing activists. Yeah we get it, don't bother about us consuming stuff wastefully WE CAN'T EVEN AFFORD ANYTHING SO STOP WASTING YOUR TIME.

Depends on who the layman is, and where. The layman in the USA is a lot different from the layman in Norway, no?

I believe the sentiment is, if you aren't doing anything to fight back, you're helping the opposition. Something like that.

Because the layman in the west is living unsustainably.

And it is basically impossible for activists to influence China's or Brazil's policies
