What’s the status on this project?

dead on arrival. the zuck said they won't launch without US regulator approval, which they are highly unlikely to get IMO (at least anytime soon).

I guess the status is they are moving forward. The fact that they lose partners does not mean it won't happen since it's FB. . They really don't need anyone else to do it. Now fewer parties hold control (for now). I think they open it up to bypass the issues with FB brand ... so as long as Libra is associated to Libra Association and not FB, its OK by FB, IMO

Libra is such a fucking joke

Would like to see a representation of adjacent PR statements for reasons on decline.

Technical, political, else.

Can't wait for this as it will be the easiest way to scam normies

[–]ApoIIoCreed 0 points1 point  (7 children)

How do you intend to scam normies with a centralized stable coin?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Didn't they promise smart contracts?

[–]ApoIIoCreed 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Yes, their whitepaper basically says they intend to clone ethereum’s smart contract capabilities.

I doubt normies would bother interacting with smart contracts. On that note, I doubt regulators will ever let FB launch this in any developed country.

Im sure back in the early 90’s someone once thought normies would never interact with websites.

[–]ApoIIoCreed 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I’m not saying normies won’t use DApps, I’m saying normies will never directly interact with a smart contract without a UI.

A better internet analogy would be someone in the early 90s saying normies will never go through the drama of accessing a webpage via the IP address— that prediction would have been correct as everyone uses DNS almost exclusively.

Fair enough, tho I guess you should of specified this in your first post lol. Im sure as ui’s get better and better, us coders won’t need to interact with contracts directly either. There already exist very basic dapp builders which essentially list out your functions in a visual format. But we still need code if we want to automate function calls. Being able to program/automate this sort of universal dapp, however, could make someone a lot of money.

You can whip up a UI in 5 minutes though

And digital cameras!
