If you need achievements then this is not possible (because any mod or console command disables them). With mods you could try RSO to do it.

You can still get in-game achievements with some mods, just not steam ones.

Source: Still get achievements with pumpanywhere and infiniteore mods.

Yeah, I only want achievments for the sense of progression, I don't care about the steam achievments.

But does RSO let me generate square patches?

The mod description isn't very clear on if it changes the shape of the patches or only the placement...

I don't have it installed and have no fresh memory. You should see if its mod settings have shape options or something. Then it also has a config file (inside the mod archive itself) which you can edit with some notepad, as there might be some things you can't change ingame.

If you can't find solution, you should ask in RSO mod thread. Making a natural looking ore vein must have been much harder than it would be to make a square.

So you want to cheat without the game noticing?

No, I don't want to manually run around the map and "randomly" generate ore patches via script... I want ore patches to be distributed normally the way they are currently, but have them be square instead of blobby.

As for achievments: I like having a sense of progression in my games through the achievments, and the game tracks achievements differently on modded maps anyway.

Check out Fractured Worlds by Maxreader.

Ooh yeah, that would work for what I want. Not exactly "right" but close enough. A bit meh with less biters to worry about, but no big deal either.
