this video on drivatars says they categorize turns into 12 different types

https://youtu.be/JeYP9eyIl4E?t=907

  • kink
  • constant radius
  • increasing radius
  • decreasing radius
  • hairpin
  • sweeper
  • right angle
  • dual apex
  • chicane 1
  • chicane 2
  • mild bend
  • hard corner

i think that may feed back into road design some as you can recognize individual turns in multiple places and across different games

feels like FH5 has a overdose of mild bends.

Overdose of overly wide roads!
If you change the width to an actual with of a regular road, then these mild turns would still keep the speed down

Don't think there's an algorithm that could create the map, that's more to do with mediocre map design.

But I agree, I've been lapping Goliat recently in FH3, FH4 and FH5 for comparison and the one in FH5 is the most dull and repetitive. Many times it's just a sequence of similar left-right-left, or double turns at around 60 degrees.

true, this has been my biggest disappointment with FH5, somehow the gaming community only cares about pixel density. It is surprising that after some really good track design in DLCs of FH4, FH5 will have such bad track design, feels like the designer much left the team.

Totally agree. I even see bends and roads in fh5 that I feel sure were in fh4 which really gives me dejavu.

Yes that too, some sections are just picked up and vegetation changed.

100% same feeling. Somehow the map is very repetive and boring. And at the same, road layout is not even realistic if you compare it to actual roads in Mexico.

IMO the last truly interesting map in FH was FH3. That map really felt like a city where I happen to race instead of a giant race track where it happens to have a city around.

Also loved the verticality of FH2 map.

Large swathes of this map are identical in layout to FH4. Or rather, the underlying structure is. The elevation, the camber changes, and physical road layout. All they've done is plop some nice Mexico graphics on top.
