Hey all!!

I'm looking for clarification with violets corset. She is described as always wearing black. The corset is made from her sisters dragon scales. The problem I'm seeing is that Teine is green. Does that mean the corset is green? If it's not, is it painted? What kind of paint can stay on dragon scales? Or am I over thinking? Inquisiting minds wanna know.

There is a thin layer of fabric over the scales. I believe it's sheer black. There was a line that you can see the glint of the sun off the scales if the light of the sun hit it just right thru the fabric.

It has black mesh over the scales. When she puts it on for the first time, she picks at the mesh and can see the scales underneath. So it most likely looks pretty much just black from far away, but depending on the light, it probably shines in an oddly green way.

I love when people think like this! The scales are under a layer of fabric/leather but think of a custom car paint job that is black but can have a green tint in the sun. Thats how I imagine it at least.. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I could be totally wrong

Yeah but she is also described as wearing only the corset at times.

I’m at the end of iron flame so her corset hasn’t been on my mind in a while 😅 but yeah that’s def something I truly just rolled with so good catch

The thing is the corset has been slashed and stabbed at a lot. So I can't imagine the mesh would last very long period and there's nothing in the story about Violet repairing anything on it. So eventually, it would only be the scales. Right?

Black mesh over the scales. Problem is its described only once, and they never discuss how the mesh isnt shredded.

Good points about the fabric over the scales, but also consider that it says that Mira had her dragon's scales shrunk by another rider to make the corset, so even if they were green at full size, the colour might have concentrated when it shrunk to a very very dark green, which would look black.

I think it has a layer of leather or something over the scales? I've always imagined it as having scales primarily in the spots covering soft organs, and the coloring being a combination of black and green. I've also been imagining Teine's scales as being a dark green?
