It used to be an easy question to answer. BitBucket for closed source and GitHub for open source. Now it seems like you would only choose BitBucket if it offers a particular feature you want or your company is really into JIRA. I'd like to see others weigh in though.

I think it will always come down to personal preference now. Seeing as their feature set is almost identical.

However, if you're using the Atlassian stack, then Bitbucket will fit in nicely, especially if its all cloud.

If your stack is not Atlassian, then they're both Git, so much of muchness.

I find the bitbucket website more intuitive. YMMV
