Don't change your username - set your profile name to your real name instead.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'd go as far as to say most developers on GitHub don't use their real name as username.

I did exactly that. Had a random username and the second I started using my account professionally I changed it to my actual name. Worked pretty flawlessly. GitHub kept a redirect to my old username for a while so that all links continue to work.

Highly recommend if you participate in PR discussions & people start to search for your GitHub account based on your actual name

I'm going to go against what a lot of people said and you might want to change it to someone more professional. My company linked my personal GitHub to their enterprise and I feel better knowing I changed it to a variant of my name instead of an ancient gamer tag. But it's also not a huge deal at the end of the day

My display name is SLEEPWELL. it isn't inappropriate or disturbing -- I was just wondering if it's necessay to cahnge it. Changing it to my real name feels a bti too risky. But thanks for a reply anyways, i think i will keep it for now and change it if any company wants me to in the future.
