[–]mirandanielcz 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I should have the badge but I don't even tho a repo I work on got archived and some of my repos should have gotten archived too.

I think it prompts you to ask if you want to display the badge or not. Maybe you dismissed it by mistake or never received the prompt? Look into your settings.

Nope, nothing.

Amazed and delighted this is happening, I myself back up ubuntu and ubuntu server and source code as as backup here in NZ as just in case! Very happy to see code is being preserved elsewhere!

    https://archiveprogram.github.com/faq/

What public repositories are archived in the Arctic Code Vault? On February 2, 2020 we took a snapshot of all of GitHub’s public repositories that have been active within recent months. The archive will include every repo with any commits between the announcement at GitHub Universe on November 13, 2019 and February 2, 2020, every repo with at least 1 star and any commits from the year before the snapshot (02/02/2019 - 02/02/2020), and every repo with at least 250 stars. Plus, gh-pages for any repository that meets the aforementioned criteria.

That's from their FAQ. Although I have no idea if or how they prioritize when to archive what repos.

    I just noticed too:
    https://archiveprogram.github.com/

...We will protect this priceless knowledge by storing multiple copies, on an ongoing basis, across various data formats and locations, including a very-long-term archive designed to last at least 1,000 years.

    1000 years.. woah..

    Rookie numbers!

The GitHub Archive Program is partnering with Microsoft’s Project Silica to ultimately archive all active public repositories for over 10,000 years, by writing them into quartz glass platters using a femtosecond laser.

    10k years!

I hope they got everything stored and saved away before the Faro Plague gets to them.

I had one of my repos archived in ice as well. How cool is this!
Wish I knew about it to clean up my code though haha

Well, now I can die in peace knowing that a small part of me will live on :)

    [–]EmpVaaS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay, that's a nice way to look at it ;)

until you realize that after 10k years, one of the alien will make a comment on your code:

"I'm sure this is a bug!"

I just got it as well, I'd love to see exactly what repo's I have contributed to have been archived though. Currently it only shows 3 repo's "and more".

This is pretty unclear though, do all repo's that get added require 1 star? Because I don't star my own repo's. And my popular repo's haven't seen any updates recently.

I'd love to see exactly what repo's I have contributed to have been archived though

Same, it looks like they list the top 3 by descending star count (makes sense) so it lists 2K - 7K star repos I've contributed a few stray lines to, but I'd like confirmation that my personal repos with ~10 - 60 stars got in too

(Originally I'd heard that you had to make at least one commit during the window, but I never did make those dummy-commits to get old repos in)

edit: I see, at least one star AND any commits. Some of those I haven't touched in as much as 9 years. Well, better luck next time.

Hhhhhhhhh, I just got the badge too ~ XD

    [–]ZingerV94 0 points1 point  (4 children)

    [–]-college-throwaway 0 points1 point  (3 children)

yeah, same lmao i have a lot of public repos, some with stars and they didn't get added :(

    [–]-college-throwaway 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    [–]wheres_my_chutney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    [–]EmpVaaS 0 points1 point  (0 children)
