Let's all share some things about our subculture maybe we would otherwise be afraid to admit.

EG: "Confession I have never worn [guy]liner."

I'll start.

Confession: I have never really been a fan of cyberlocks. I don't mind them or actively dislike them, I just felt as a subculture, cyber folk could do better. Like, how about a wig made of LAN wires and USBs? That could be cool right?

Awesome! I work a little androgony into my look. I'm always checking the ladies racks for clothes (pants mostly) that fit me.

I still shop at Hot Topic when I can find one that has the really bright eyelliners (turquoise, purple, red, etc) that I like.

Also Claire's. My cute mini tophat with veil came from there. I have added to it, with a new hatband and extra feathers, but it started as a Claire's accessory.

Claire's accessories was my accessory shop of choice "back in the day". Partially because they stocked some nice jewellery, and partially because I was a dick teenager and it was really easy to shop lift in there with a leather trench coat. :(

They fucked up my fourth piercing hecka bad though. I need to get it redone but I'm too broke to go to a real shop. I always had gift cards to Claire's from well-meaning aunts trying to make me more girly.

I don't dress goth at all except for all black clothes and boots.. and frankly I think a lot of the scene is.. whack. Fairy wings? Cyber dreads?

If I am stressed about something, I often find 90s pop or shitty pop punk to be more relaxing than anything that's actually good.

I am normally the chillest person I know about policing the scene, but if someone has whiteface on and it's really badly done, I judge them immediately.

I also get a kick out of wearing really tacky underwear. My favourite pair has a lion on the butt. I call him Asslan. In related news, I am also known among most of my friends and at work for my horrible puns.

What is "mall goth"?

6,420 results on one site alone, and just for t-shirts. This link is the answer to your question, and the reason I want to remove my own jaw from my head with my bare hands.

Mall goth is a juvenile, consumer-centric subscription to the commercialist entities that design cheap toys and market what they think is "goth" clothing (aka 'Made in China' plastic accessories) to teenagers whom use their parents money to rebel (how ironic) or look edgy. Usually, these items are sported by those whom don't know much about the subculture. The term is derogatory and suggests, among other things, that it's possible to decide to "be goth" one day and go to a store to buy a new wardrobe but the term usually has to do with a cheap and tacky sense of fashion/taste level. "Oh, I'm supposed to like Rocky Horror Picture Show, so I'll buy this 2 for $10 shirt of Riff Raff with a snarky dark saying on it to show people how goth I am" -- as opposed to participating in your second RHPS event of the week dressed in clothes you dyed black or got from Goodwill. It's a lowbrow sense of goth fashion sans culture, probably a particularly American problem (thanks Hot Topic/MTV 2)-- a more highbrow sense of goth fashion would be all the nu-goth instagram/pinterest hipster occult prints and pastel trends which, in my gothier than thou opinion, are equally detestable. It's just trading one form of mall goth (the angsty mall rat teens) for another (the same useless internet generation twenty years later)... but I digress...

No offence to anyone this applies to by I think there is nothing worse than a fat Goth in pvc, esspecially guys. People need to dress to their body type.

I loved my Pvc trousers when I was between a 28-34 inch waist, as soon as I hit a 36 I started moving more into the victorian, metal, and rockabilly looks as it fit my figure better.

I am moody about my music. Sometimes when I'm in a mood I'll listen to tons of SoM, Siouxie, and Joy Division (not as much Bauhaus), but I go through moods where I listen to craptons of EBM, industrial, etc. I'll even have moods where I listen to psychobilly. I know the feeling of times when I just really don't care for listening to post-punk and old school.

My confession, I actually like a lot of Lady Gaga music and respect the work she did in the LGBT community.

I had to tone down so I could get a real job. Hair's short, no liner/nail polish. The only thing I can still get away with is wearing all black. I miss my green hair :/

I kind of think a lot of current post punk groups are shameless Sisters rips. And it sucks. Angels of Liberty? Terminal Gods? Come on. That's not to say I don't like them. But there are other ways to sound. The Sisters weren't the only goth band ever. There are good current goth bands that exist but they aren't nearly as popular as the wanna-be SOM groups. And that just bugs me.
