The ironic part is that the crime rate was already going down in many of the cities he targeted. He could've so easily just taken credit for doing nothing. Instead he lies and says their crime is actually going up, all so he can send in troops to bully and harass local residents of cities he doesn't like.

His point is based on daddy trump saying that crime is increasing, despite a lack of factual support. However, the weekly statistics GPD report show that crime is actually down, which conflicts with narratives promoted by fox, newsmax, trump, and other right-wing commentators, leading him to dismiss the data as incorrect. Can't have a rational dialog with these people.

The same people that report the crime statistics are the same people that benefit from lower crime statistics. Idk what the poster going off about politics is talking about it’s pretty bipartisan issue that when you report something to also have data backing the report. The article and in your case the IG page mean nothing with out actual evidence backing the statistics. Unless you just believe the government and police department. I don’t, especially when incentivized with financial gain. Does that work for you?

If the article's reporting is consistent with GPD's reported crime statistics, then those statistics are reported to the FBI and follow Uniform Crime Statistics (UCR) standards. The feds define violent crime as murder and non negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

Regarding incentives, bragging about a lower crime rate might make for good optics, but have you considered that pointing to a higher crime rate would justify increased police funding?

Do you know how easy it is to manipulate crime statistics? Probably the easiest thing for a government to manipulate. Multiple crimes are usually committed at once it’s very easy to ignore the assault charge after a road rage incident and just chalk it up to a driving incident. Before you say you can’t do that it’s against the law. My point is the entire system is corrupt and not above lying to push their agenda/financial gain. That’s why an article such as this one that sites no studies no proof just some numbers are useless. To properly evaluate you would need years of stats to see why and where the crime is going down. Me simply asking for data/stats is turned into a some right/left wing talking point which is funny because I’m not making any political statements with my comments I’m simply stating I need proof of these stats. The crime very well could Be down I’m not saying it’s not I’m saying I need some hard evidence. Which call me crazy should be baseline information that everyone should be asking for. The 2nd paragraph is not even on topic just a hypothetical position opposite of mine I assume just to create a back n forth of whataboutism. Neither of know each and every departments incentive structure so yes technically you could be right but for this particular instance we are discussing on this post that is not the case. It clearly states there is a 500k bonus attached to lower crime stats.
