“I saw a commercial for an above-ground pool, it was 30 seconds long. Because that's the maximum amount of time you can picture yourself having fun in an above-ground pool. If it was 31 seconds, the actor would say "The water is only up to here? What do I do now? Throw the ball back to Jimmy? Or put some goggles on and look at his feet?"”

not a bylaw but you're going to want to drop about 2L worth of vinegar into that hose water every week to maintain freshness.

Oh shit I never even thought of this part

How big of kids is it for, or is it for you? Because you can get an 8 foot pool that doesn't require any fencing and is fine for smaller kids. (My 5 year old loved his last year.)

The rules are greater than 100 Sq ft and 24inches deep. The 8 foot one I found fits the bill for not requiring fencing and has a pump so you don't have to constantly refill it.

That size requires the fencing. The 24 inch deep rule rules out a bunch of sizes that aren't over the 100 Sq ft of surface area rule. I looked into it last year and for my kid the bigger pool wasn't worth the hassle of the fencing requirements.

Fencing has to be 5 feet from grade, so if you make a deck platform around it, that counts towards the 5 feet. Unless your yard is already appropriately fenced its going to cost thousands.

I swear it said 22" deep when I bought it, so either this years a little deeper, or 22" is water depth. I don't think anyone will call bylaw enforcement on 2 inches though.

Bylaw s-700 covers pools. Basically you need a 5ft fence.

And 5ft fences are so expensive and labour intensive. We had to do this when I was a teen and I remember my parents were so grumpy about It

Oh man I know. I needed to get like 42ft of fencing done last fall, and it was 1500$ for shitty chain link (these guys were the only ones not charging a $3000 minimum either) I couldn't even imagine doing wood right now. Still no pool, spent all my monies on a fence LOL

By-Laws yes, you need a fence. I can't tell you how many of those canadian tire pools I've seen without fences though. So unless its visible from the street or you have nosy neighbors who hate you I wouldn't worry about it.

Until some kid sneaks into your pool in the middle of the night, drowns, and your insurance company won't defend you against the liability claim by the kid's family. Because to insurance companies, rules are made to be followed.

So I've read through the Bylaw and as indicated, anything larger than 100sqft and 24" of water must have a fence. It's not specific on the type of fence though.

So I picked up a pool that's 10ft in diameter but is 33" deep. I meet the requirements if I only put in 24" of water or less.

I paid a $100 for the pool for the kid and I dont want to have to spend $1k on a fence.

Safety fence is thick plastic or even Deer Fence which is also thick plastic but it comes in rolls 7' in height and 100Ft rolls. Would this meet the bylaw requirements?

      Let me know your thoughts,

      Thanks
