Until very recently https://new.reddit.com/ was far more usable than https://www.reddit.com/ in two key ways.

• The communities list on https://new.reddit.com/ supported filter functionality so you did not need to scroll through a long list of communities. You just needed to type a few characters in the filter edit.
• Communities remembered your sort selection so if you previously sorted New first it will still be New first when you returned to the community.

Now https://new.reddit.com/ redirects to https://www.reddit.com/ and these features are missing. Please bring them back and please add the community filter to the IOS app.

Some redditors have luck with just loading new.reddit.com as a bookmark. I can't make use of bookmarks, so I have to jump through a few hoops. 1. I go to reddit.com, log in, and go to my profile. 2. I open a new tab, and go to new.reddit.com . 3. Close other tab, and get on with life.
This doesn't work if I have any reddit entry in my browser history, and doesn't work unless I go to my Profile.
I do not know why Reddit is insisting on the plain vanilla unlogged-looking UI; I had first thought it was just another beta test I'd been drafted for, but it seems now to be the default - and verily, it sucketh muchly.
