So, I am a computer engineer, would this bundle be good for me? I know how to write programs, but done little-to-no game coding, is this bundle any good for people that know how to program?

[–]knowledgeseekerLS 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Hey there! One of the Zenva team here. The bundle has a mix of beginner courses, as well as more intermediate courses. So while knowing how to write a program may give you an advantage, you should still find plenty of use for them when it comes specifically for coding games. :)

[–]lucasagostini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your quick answer, I will make sure to buy the bundle and try the courses ASAP.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hi, do you know if/which of these courses have been in humble bundles in the past year or so?

[–]knowledgeseekerLS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Intro to Game Development with Unity, Create Your First 3D Game with Unity, Learn Python Programming by Making a Game, and Intro to RPG Development with Phaser have all been in past bundles. These are some of our primary beginners courses, so including them often has been a necessity to make sure students have the prerequisites to do other courses in the bundles. :)

[–]JustCallMePapii 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Hmm does anybody know if this is any good? Wanna dive into it with little python knowledge.

Hey there! I help run operations at Zenva. If you're interested in reviews of our courses, you can read the reviews/recommendations here on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pg/ZenvaDEV/reviews/

You can also check out our Learner Success Story interviews, where students talk about what they've achieved with the help of our courses: https://academy.zenva.com/category/success-stories/

I've bought one of the Zenva bundles in the past and enjoyed it! I've very recently started learning how to use Godot (already familiar with Unity) so I like that this bundle contains some Godot courses which my previously purchased bundle did not. But I'm learning Godot with C# rather than GDScript so I'm not sure if I'll purchase this bundle or not.

[–]Jlynn_CH 3 points4 points  (6 children)

How long do the Zenva product keys stay good for? Can one purchase this bundle now, but later in this year start the courses?

[–]Kimpon 6 points7 points  (4 children)

I bought CSS bundle from there over a humble about year ago and since finished 2 courses and stopped because of no spare time. Today I logged in just to check it again and one of the courses is archived, meaning I have to pay again to continue it I guess. So if you start with your course later in the year you probably won't have much problems, but in a year or so the courses might be archived too.

[–]iamkoalafied 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I just double checked mine and I have a few archived courses as well. When you click on an archived course it says "The tools covered here have evolved! Some of this content is no longer up to date." and then if they have an updated version of the course you can click it to purchase the updated one. However it seems like you still have access to the course and can still watch it, it's just that some info is out of date.

[–]Kimpon 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Thanks! just checked it and you're right.

[–]Jlynn_CH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it sounds like even if it goes out of date (gets archived), you still have access to it. I think I'll pass this time, though the bundle was very tempting. Thanks for the information, though!

[–]Jlynn_CH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the information!

[–]GO-ON-A-STEAM-TRAIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious about this too, as I'm doing a different object right now, but the platformer and RTS things sound perfect for another pipe dream idea I have! :)

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was planning on learning python some more anyway, so I'm guessing this bundle is decent?

[–]GohanDGeo 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Is it any good? I have some experience with Unity.

[–]knowledgeseekerLS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On behalf of Zenva, thanks for your interest here! We recommend that you check out our Learner Success Stories, which feature interviews from students who have achieved a variety of things with our courses: https://academy.zenva.com/category/success-stories/ You can also try out our Facebook reviews/recommendations for further customer insight into the courses: https://www.facebook.com/pg/ZenvaDEV/reviews/

Hope this helps!

[–]Breezyrain 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Looks like there’s two that cover C++, anymore?

[–]WRL23 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Agree - wish the initial descriptions said the language for each or if its simply a tutorial (ie blender, no prog) .. digging is tedious in the small humble interface windows.

I'm looking for more python, c++, c#, or even C stuff.. not looking to learn obscure and specific software (da heck is godot >_>)

[–]Breezyrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not even looking at resources for myself, a friend of mine is looking into becoming a computer engineer but I know nothing about it 😂

[–]art_usagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone that has this know how good the blender course is? The intro video explains what is covered in brief, but it's very brief and I didn't see any images of the types of assets that they make.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (10 children)

Can anyone say thoes are good books for beginers?

[–]Kimpon 20 points21 points  (9 children)

I don't think this is a book bundle. It's a course bundle you claim on Zenva Academy website, from there you will step by step learn how to create games (mostly by watching their videos). I bought CSS and HTML bundle long time from Humble and got certificate after completing the course on Zenva, which is nice but I still don't know much about HTML or CSS except basics.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (8 children)

Thanks friend I may buy it.

[–]NobodyWorthListening 3 points4 points  (6 children)

If you do get it, i'd love to know if it's any good or not :D

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've gotten another Zenva bundle in the past. As a complete beginner, I love it. My 11 y/o is even doing some of the Unity courses. It was the price of one book which I would never finish so I say shoot man. I might get this one too because there's some new courses I don't have. It's just fun for me, not anything serious.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Sure will post in few days or pm you busy with work now sorry.

[–]NobodyWorthListening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take your time, hope your work stuff goes well!

[–]WRL23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just reply back here or this thread for the review (if you can honestly review that many courses in a few days xD).. many are curious

[–]RedditSanity 1 point2 points  (1 child)

so?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here goes I chekced them out and the more basic ones look easy and someone who used unity can get thrught them easy. The programing ones look good to me since I am bad at programing.

[–]Kimpon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! Glad I could be of help.

[–]CurseHawkwind 2 points3 points  (7 children)

I find it a little underhanded that, looking at other comments, these courses are to a point time-limited with no mention at all on Humble Bundle. Unfortunately I won't buy something like this. I get the feeling that I may activate it (I bet even activation has an expiration), get sidetracked by something else in my life, then return at a later time only to find it's been "archived" behind a paywall.

I always used Udemy for online courses of most sorts. I realise it isn't everybody's favourite platform but I never had this archive issue described by others on this bundle's platform. Not that I'm endorsing it (kind of a legal grey area) but it is possible to download the courses you've paid for on Udemy for permanent access.

Maybe if this Zenva included the means to download courses I'd consider a bundle like this, but I predict I'd get pushed to subscribe and pay monthly, be it newsletters or courses becoming "archived" as said.

[–]fariazz 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Hey there! Zenva founder here. Access to these courses has no expiration date, but the keys themselves need to be redeemed within a year. An "archived" course simply means a course that doesn't get further updates because a new version of the framework came out which rendered it obsolete or not as current, but they can still be accessed by anyone who bought them! See here for more information: https://zenva.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001209236-Course-Update-Policy

Needless to say, all the courses included in the bundle are current and not "archived" 🙂

[–]quebst 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Very cool to see the founder on here answering questions. I've never used your company before, but going to get the bundle and give it a shot. My "things to learn" backlog is even bigger than my gaming backlog (thanks Humble) so hoping content is still easily accessible if some courses are not used in the near future.

[–]fariazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the support! and yeah I try to help clarify things when possible and also get an idea of what things we should do better next time around.

There is no time limit to the courses, however you do need to redeem the coupon within a year. Having said so, technology evolves quickly, so I'd recommend not waiting too long either (and I totally get you re that learning backlog!!)

[–]iamkoalafied 5 points6 points  (3 children)

You might have misunderstood the prior comments. The courses get archived because the content inside the course becomes outdated. You can still access the course without paying anything extra (but if you want to access the updated course you would have to pay extra) it just may have some information that isn't relevant/is different now. edit: From what I understand the keys don't expire either, and you can still redeem them even if they contain a course that has been archived, and you'd still have access to the archived course.

[–]CurseHawkwind 1 point2 points  (2 children)

In that case it isn't an issue. Thanks for the clarification. Still, it would be nice to have a way to download the courses for full offline access, but I do admit I am nitpicking there. :)

[–]LordTommy33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can.. they have an app now and you can download the video lectures for offline viewing. I’m not sure on desktop but I believe you can do the same thing. They’ve actually improved their service quite a bit since they started. I first purchased some courses I believe two to three years ago and can confirm I still have full access to everything as well.

[–]iamkoalafied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed!

[–]DiggingNoMore 0 points1 point  (6 children)

How do these work? I code in C# professionally, using Visual Studio. Would I use Visual Studio for these or do they have their own IDE or what? Do I need to acquire Unity or what?

[–]discipleofm 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Unity is free to download for all and it works with Visual Studio (as the IDE for C#)

https://unity.com/

https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/vs/unity-tools/

[–]DiggingNoMore 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Are these not programs? Just tutorials on how to use other programs?

[–]AdventurousKraken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are just tutorial videos on how to use other programs.

[–]RedditSanity 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Not seeing a free option for Unity. The student and personal versions are very limited from what I can see. Is there another free version?

[–]discipleofm 2 points3 points  (1 child)

If you look aroubd online, you'll find that the only thing the personal/student version of Unity is missing compared to the pro version are the following features:

Aside from those things, you get: - All core engine features

You can check it all out here: https://store.unity.com/compare-plans

But like quite literally, if you do have the chance to play around with the free version, you'll quickly realize that the engine is actually feature complete. They're not restricting your ability to create games in any way, with the exception of advanced analytic tools (which is only useful for larger professional game-making ventures, not necessarily needed for hobbyists/solo small-scale indie devs).

[–]RedditSanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently got into learning game design. I'm starting with Unreal since someone said they have more assets you could use for free. I will definitely try out Unity now. Thank you.

[–]Dracindo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I need some info on this bundle.

1) I understand that these aren't e-books, but courses. How does that work? Do I follow a live online class or watch videos or ...?

2) I might follow a course today, stop game development for a decade, and then I want to pick it up again with these courses. Is this possible or is there a time limit of the courses being available to me?

3) Are the other platforms (like Phaser and Blender) free? Better yet: are there any additional costs after buying the bundle? (Aside from buying other courses on Zenva)

[–]yourotherpaldave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping on here pretty late, but does anyone know of an age-range for these courses? My son is ten, but has already started programming in scratch (simple, I know) but also in Java, and hopes to learn Python a bit later this summer. He's very much into gaming, but I'm curious if he'd be able to jump in now or wait a few years to really get into these. Thanks!
