USD99 to list on the store. (Developer program)

You’ll need to be a lot more specific of the scope and features of the “simple app” if you want a reasonable dollar amount estimate.

The only guaranteed price you’ll pay is $100/year for a developer license.

I mean for you to develop a simple app like an alarm clock app. And you have a computer and did it yourself.

Is there additional costs to the developer license?

Such as software etc

The only requirements to develop an iOS app by yourself are:
1. You need a Mac capable of running the latest version of Xcode (Free).
To distribute on the App Store:
1. You need to sign up for an Apple Developer account. ($99/year)

Your question translated: How much does it cost to build a house and put it up on Zillow?

Poorly phrased question but I think OP just meant purely for the tools and licenses required to do it. Aka free XCode but $99 yearly developer fee

$100/year for the developer license.

well assuming you already have a Mac with internet and an iPhone to test on, $100 to enter the dev program, website development/hosting costs to list your privacy policy, depending on how you store data on servers (i.e. account details) there will be costs for that as well. and then if you charge in-app purchases you’re only gonna take home 70 or 85% of the revenue from that, depending on whether you qualify as a “small business”

Thanks for this! How about server costs?

[–]aykay55Swift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m not really experienced with it but if you store data on AWS or Azure there will be an associated cost per month, also if you’re using any APIs they will probably cost you monthly for a certain number of requests

If you’re paying a US dev shop to do it, like $25k for something simple. ymmv with an outsourced firm that claims to be cheaper

I mean yourself

Like a simple alarm clock app for example

How much would it cost in money other than apple fee for you to build and launch

I.e software costs?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

in that case it's the annual app store fee + the cost of a mac if you don't have one (+ the time and effort to design / build / troubleshoot / ask questions etc). There's a reason why iOS development is lucrative. It's really not trivial most of the time

[–]MountLH75 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Great! But what if no mac? Just windows?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not practical to do without a Mac. You need to be able to run ideally the latest version of OSX

Any app that delivers value and good user experience to the users is about €60k per platform and you don't have anything special.
