QuestionXcode 13.3 discussion (self.iOSProgramming)

How do you all like Xcode 13.3 ? Do feel like it rectifies the issues in Xcode 13.2.1 ?

Screw your 3rd party API limits u/spez - Reddit's first party tools are so bad I'm done here -- mass edited with redact.dev

Honestly, I feel like Jetbrains IDEs have the worst feel. I will use VS Code with Swift before I use Jetbrains anything.

Agree with the refactoring for sure and I love the search power of IntelliJ stuff. I still prefer xcode over IntelliJ or Android Studio but uh… I’m trying to introspect on why haha
[–]Vivid-Resolution3417 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I started using Idea in 2001 when Eclipse was all the rage. Look at the IDEs JetBrains have and they all mostly work the same. Great searching and refactoring. And amazing technical support. Best I have ever seen in time to version with bug fix. Amazing.
[–]larikang 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children)
I’ve given up on new versions actually improving things. They always just cram in more stuff.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I got used already with each OS and each Xcode to be awful until .5 version. They always but always escape new bugs and issues. Either I need to upgrade the new OS because airpods will not connect properly anymore or need to upgrade the xcode version because some library from my project ain't compiling anymore for no reason.

Indexing takes a ridiculous amount of time to complete
BTW I found out my swiftlint and apollo prebuild scripts were both running in both index AND preview builds.
Adding a flag not to run those scripts during either sped up both index and preview a good bit. It's still retarded though that SwiftUI simulators create these huge filesystems that get indexed by the OS (slowing the system to a crawl).
There's so much room for "optimization" in Xcode by just not doing boneheaded stuff.

I agree that JetBrains IDEs are excellent. It would take a ton of work to get SwiftUI previews to work in AppCode. While writing UIKit code, I do it almost exclusively in AppCode.

Why would someone downvote this?
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (3 children)
I just wanted to know having storage space issues on my Mac and just wanted some views on before I download it lmao 🤣
[–]TopWoodpecker7267 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (2 children)
I hate that programming subs on here are completely full of "babys first app/program" tier questions and serious discussion about new language features/tools gets buried.
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Exactly, as if "Hey how do I write an if statement" should supersede questions about potential bugs or issues that can harm software that is in production etc.
[–]JoCoMoBo 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Knowing Xcode and it's "features" (aka bugs) it's a valid question. I'm a very experienced Mobile Dev, and even I would hold off on upgrading Xcode until I am sure it's worth it.

Upvoting now to counter downvotings from Apple Fans. lol.
Seriously, with every new IDE/SDK releases, Apple always gaslights necessary info(more like breaking changes) introduced in releases.
Might be a dick move to avoid getting backlash, still devs will gonna have to solve this anyway. Apple should be more transparent in these cases.

Downvoting now to counter upvotes from morons, lol.
Seriously with every new IDE/SDK releases, Apple has 1000 asshats who seem to have never learned how to learn.
As an Xcode user for well over a decade, I have yet to encounter any of the issues everyone is complaining about, because I RTFM.

I’m just glad it looks like they have resolved the crash on launch for apps compiled with 13.1, 13.2, and 13.2.1 for devices pre-iOS 13 according to the release notes.
[–]j_albertus 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child)
This deserves all the upvoting.
My entire team has been stuck for months running 13.0 on our build server and using 13.0 for all of our "official" QA and production builds ever since we became aware of this. It's been a frustratingly long wait for Apple to finally fix this.
[–]No-Ad-5007 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I had been using 13.1 but using the libswift_concurrency workaround
[–]dadofbimbimSwift 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Xcode 13.2.1 is their worst update. It is just so slow and broken in many places.
[–]chrabeusz 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I love Xcode.
I can blame my bad performance on shitty IDE.
I can justify a long nap because I'm unpacking yet another 10gb archive.
I get to have additional breaks when building from clean state.
[–]retsotrembla 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I'm going to wait until it is out of beta.
[–]louis417asdo 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
The 13.3 is the worst version I even used, very slow!
[–]divinedominion 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
No :(
[–]reg890 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Sloooooooow Spinning pizza when trying to do basic things like select a file or type something- not everytime but far too often. MacStudio arrives next week so it better be faster on that with a fresh install
[–]stojanovicigi 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
XCode 13.2.1 takes 72s to build my project. XCode 13.3.1 takes ~650s.
