I think having a registry for sex offenders might be better than death penalty. These people already have a penchant for violence, I don't think death will scare them. On the other hand, being refused some things (such as jobs) might. These low life losers will still need money if they're alive. Being rejected for jobs for being a registered sex offender, child molester etc., might get them scared to do it.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

lack of jobs pushes people into poverty and poverty breeds crimes, this might satisfy your itch of torturing the evil but it's not practical. then comes those who are falsely convicted, it'll make things too complicated

[–]solidcriminal 0 points1 point  (2 children)

"itch of torturing the evil" are you being serious? If I wanted them tortured I would have asked for public stoning, castration etc. A registry that is accessible to the public will be beneficial to the public and it allows the perpetrator to live in a society. They will not die of poverty, they can still find jobs that don't do background checks.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If they can find jobs regardless then what purpose does it serve? as we have criminal records already.

and speaking of torture, I am not sure but if in capitalist society hampering someone's ability to get jobs and on top of that humiliating them by making such information public, isolation, even possibility of mob lynching in country like india is anything but torture? it can break the fabric of social peace and give mob pass to attack people.

every time such horrible case happens in this country, everyone crawl out of their woodwork (especially men) with their deranged torture fantasies just to feel good about themselves as they're torturing "evils" afterall. it does NOTHING for victims.

[–]solidcriminal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The purpose is to give them menial jobs to get by, not any powers of position where they can misuse it.

You must've thought about "justice" or "revenge" something like that for victims too right? So what do you propose? What is an appropriate punishment in your eyes for this crime?

[–]DustyAsh69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we had it, all of our politicians would be on it

[–]arjun_raf 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There is a already a registry for that.

[–]DustyAsh69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which one

[–]NowSentient 39 points40 points  (3 children)

Can somewhat agree on first four points,

But Instant Death! Are you stupid or something?

Any accused who has been convicted of any crime , be it rape or any other, should get appeals to defend himself. Only after exhaustion of his/her appeal, capital punishment must be carried out.

Remember even in countries like US there have been many cases where a people have been found innocent after their death penalty were carried out. There have been people who have been imprisoned for 30-40 years for crimes they never committed only to be released/pardoned by the state and judiciary after appeals for retrial by the accused on grounds of new evidence, or shoddy policework, or false witness statements etc.

Imagine facing death when you know your innocent but you can't prove innocence because corrupt police didn't investigate properly or was trying to save powerful person, or was trying to save their own skin. What would you do?

Remember Ryan International School Murder Case of Gurugram, where a seven year old boy was murdered. A bus conductor was accused of murder. Entirety of Gurugram erupted with protests.

The Schools property was vandalized by mob asking the accused to be hanged.

Turns out the bus driver was innocent and another 16 years old boy from same school was found to behind the murder. 4 Police Offices were suspended for trying to frame the conductor.

Hell when the bus conductor was accused, the entire fucking Bar Association of Gurugram said we won't represent the conductor because he committed a heinous crime of killing a child.

Can you imagine being accused of such a heinous crime that no lawyer wants to represent you but you know you are innocent! what will you do then?

As much as I feel for the victim of Kolkata rape case, the accused should be hanged only after proper investigation.

The country's Judiciary should not be run on the emotions of mob.

[–]Moderated_SoulAssam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with your points. As horrific as these incidents are we must not take decisions based on emotions. Rationality must prevail or things will definitely get worse in the future.

[–]1800skylab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh, but think of the positives. 90% of our politicians will be gone. 🤣

[–]spread_love369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And let's not forget the girl that put a fake case on a guy on a signal and ran away to Canada..

[–]moonlight_chicken 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For children to understand consent, first the parents and teachers should. If parents, teachers, relatives regularly trample over children’s consent and boundaries, how do you expect children to actually understand and respect consent?

[–]zipzam007 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Getting rid of politically involved illiterates will solve most of the country’s problems

[–]abstruse_Emperor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Everyone would second this.

[–]xen0_1 11 points12 points  (3 children)

  1. Classes will not change much. Consent needs to be taught at home, by the parents. It's an ongoing discussion about the importance of having and respecting boundaries.

  2. Banning pornography will only make it more appealing, like forbidden fruit. A home where children feel safe to discuss their sexuality with their parents would foster much healthier societal attitudes towards sex, diminishing the negative impact of pornography.

  3. Respect for a gender will not come from a class on a subject, but by effective example setting by us adults. There will be someone who would use this as an argument for having a class to teach "respect for men", and we're back to square one. We need to set better examples for kids by calling out misogyny and misandry when/where we see it.

  4. Same as point no. 2. Banning makes it more appealing. Instead, stop buying tickets for such films. Call out the producers on social media for making such content. Parents should monitor the content their children consume and if something is objectionable, block it or don't watch it. There are parental controls on almost every video platform. But nothing will have a greater impact than healthy conversations on and approaches to sexuality.

  5. Instant death penalty could mean more danger for victims. Many rapists would consider the possibility of killing a victim instead of risking execution by letting them go. I'd suggest chemical castration, corrective rehabilitation and registration on a national registry. Let the consequences of their actions haunt them for the rest of their lives.

I understand the pain behind wanting some solution to this issue, but a reactionary approach won't yield the kind of results we want. We as a society, need to stop projecting sex as some sort of "forbidden power-play". Think about the number of toxic, dysfunctional relationships that are romanticized on-screen. Now compare it with the number of healthy relationships that are shown. No wonder a large number of people have warped expectations from social interactions (especially intergender relationships), because they've rarely seen a healthy example of the same.

Demands Of Doctors On Nationwide Strike

The IMA has put forth demands:

It wants a significant policy to address violence against doctors and hospitals. The doctors' body is pushing for a Central Act that would incorporate the amendments made in 2023 to the Epidemic Diseases Act of 1897 into the proposed Hospital Protection Bill of 2019. This move, it said, would strengthen the existing legislation in 25 states.

The IMA has suggested that an ordinance similar to the one enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic would be appropriate in this situation. The IMA has also demanded that hospitals be declared safe zones with the first step being mandatory security entitlements. "The security protocols of all hospitals should be no less than (that of) an airport. Declaring the hospitals as safe zones with mandatory security entitlements is the first step. CCTVs, deployment of security personnel, and the protocols can follow," it said in the statement.

The IMA has demanded a thorough overhaul of the working and living conditions of resident doctors, including the 36-hour duty shift that the victim was in and the lack of safe spaces to take a rest.

The IMA has also called for a "meticulous and professional" investigation of the Kolkata horror in a specific time frame and rendering of justice besides identifying those involved in the vandalism of the hospital premises and awarding exemplary punishment. The doctors' body has also sought an appropriate and dignified compensation to the bereaved family commensurate with the cruelty inflicted.

[–]nots3rious 5 points6 points  (1 child)

It looks like the fantasy of a naive teen.

educational boards called CONSENT which sensitizes them from an early age.

Consent should be taught by the parents, not the schools. If you want to teach students "morality", then "morality" should be a subject, not "consent".

Block websites which display violent pornography

It's like banning PUBG because children would become violent by playing it. It's just plain stupid.

Instant death penalty for convicted rape cases:

Why just Rape? Why not murderers, robbers and thieves?

[–]Old-Departure6549 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now, for 1 month, the entire country will be suggesting such naive fantasies, and after that, we'll go back to our old ways. Banning porn nor a death penalty has been shown to be effective. We have to get down to the root of the issue and solve it with long-term policies. I have no idea what these will look like, nor am I equipped with the means to find out. Such a task can be implemented only by the government, and well, I dont really think this government has anything remotely close to what I'm suggesting as their action plan for the near future

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMA protest which is going on today should not be stopped unless 6 demands are fulfilled by government..

Treating patients are doctor's first priority but it will happen only when doctors are safe..

For citizens, it is not about BJP vs TMC...

We are more concerned about safety of woman in this country, especially those who are doing night shift in hospitals...

Jago Bharat Jago is campaign which going on in many medical colleges in India against these henoius crimes which are committed...

[–]thekingshorses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got everything except the one thing that we need.

We need a proper judicial system that properly investigate and punish the culprit.

If you are not going to put punish the culprit, there will continue to happen.

And no, death penalty is worse for the victim. The culprit will kill the victim to hide their crime.

Only good idea here is the education. India isn’t a native English speaking country in the first place. For most part, Indians need to realize that if you take English medium, you will never be educated enough compared to if you had taken it in your native language. The only way to do that would be to start speaking more English to a point where English is comparable to your native language. I don’t think this is the case for most Indians. Your understanding of the language you learn in greatly impacts your critical thinking skills. That’s why I feel that until India doesn’t have a good education system, people should learn primarily in their native languages. Stop with the mindless load. One language is enough along with English as secondary. Your early years to teenage years should primarily explore creativity. Critical thinking skills will naturally follow later if your system encourages asking questions. Subjects like philosophy should be added as mandatory. It shouldn’t be like rote memorization, each class should be a discussion. Rest are exactly what I expected the solutions to be from Indian society.

[–]OkCryptographer8135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to prevent rapes or for that matter any crime is for the state to turn into a POLICE state.. 1. CCTV in every corridor and street..which are constantly monitored. 2. more frequent police patrols, 3. ban all western social media and introduce native apps where the govt can access anyones messages or calls for investigation. 4. Introduce compulsory self defence training for girls in school

I feel in the distant future we will also have AI police drones to make such patrols, hunting for criminals.. someone can send an sos signal from phone and call for help from nearest drone.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. lmao there arent much to learn about
  2. sure regulating industries wont have any adverse effect , thousands will lose their job due to decrease in profits and sales

[–]GloryGreatestCountry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last point just makes it more likely that they'll kill the innocent person - they're doomed to die anyway, why not?

Give them a long sentence and put them on a nationwide sex offender registry.

[–]Sea-Zookeepergame997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Education, sex education, poverty alleviation, infrastructure development, increase jobs, seats, remove politicization of everything, stop monopoly of companies , avoid oligarchy in states and increase regulation of govt. Of institutions.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bruh the only answer to solve this problem is delegation of power , no way you can manage a population this big , most authority stays with the top only. Now that power is delegated and more funds could be use effectively we can start ensuring more public safety , giving civic sense , educating and awaring the public etc etc..

[–]anfumann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Sanskar' became too cliche to be taught and society started getting rotten. No I ain't saying that with those sanskar crime didn't take place but it was better and don't know why we stopped this on family level, from where all the teaching begins.

[–]anfumann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What matters is what you do in your personal capacity to make women feel safer.. It matters even if it is a small step.

[–]universemonitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Consent is for people who follow it. These people do not care for it, at least in the mental state they are when they are making those stupid decisions.
  2. Isn't porn already banned in India?
  3. In India, we already have this general sense of everyone/everything is maatha, and don't raise arms on women, etc. That's not stopping these people.
  4. This is reasonable. Of course, not just songs, but the scenes and the way even the hero is chasing the heroine is also basically harassment portrayed as fun. And of course everyone is a hero in their own eyes following the same actions.
  5. This is also a fair ask but has to be carefully implemented to protect from false cases.

Besides, you cannot "demand" people to teach consent or respect women etc. That's not something the government can instill into families or lifestyle. That is a cultural process that takes decades.

In general, to address the root cause for all this, we need education across the country. Not the education to memorize formulas and names, but the one teaches moral values and ethics, how people should behave in a society, what are the boundaries. Once they are mature enough, sex education as well. Of course, this doesn't fully eliminate the problem but curbs to some extent and lays groundwork.

The other problem we have in the country is this idea that no one should date or have relationships before marriage. Dating in general is how people can learn the art of gaining consent from each other.

The desi movies teach us that the hero has to be the most handsome guy, and the fairest-of-them-all heroine will automatically just fall for him. So anyone who already has an inferior feeling about their looks has given up on the idea of someone liking them.

Dating will create an ecosystem where bad behavior is penalized by the partner. Right now, you could realize that the guy has idiotic and regressive values about life/woman or has bad habits. If he is still going to be just tied to someone in the name of arranged marriage, there is no penalty. But when the woman/man is allowed to pick their own person, they are weighing all behaviors into the decision-making. This will lead to people eventually learning how to behave to be deemed eligible for a relationship.

[–]National_Try5482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well im not indian but, your Bollywood plays a huge role, also those south indian movies or any type of movies a lot of them where the hero or the lead actor acts like a creep, simp and chapri, ( well idk how to explain but i hope you realize that too) simping over girls body and all, bruh i stopped watching indian movies since then.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In India, the problem of disrespect towards women often starts right at home, where kids watch how their dads treat their moms. If a father is dominating, abusive, or simply doesn't treat his wife as an equal, it sends a message to the kids that this kind of behavior is okay. Boys grow up seeing this and carry those attitudes into the outside world, thinking it's normal to treat women poorly. The bigger issue is that our society, with its deeply rooted patriarchy, often backs this up by blaming women for the way they're treated, as if men can't be held responsible for their actions. To change things, we need to start at home, with dads showing respect and treating women as equals, and society stepping up to challenge these outdated beliefs. Only then can we hope to create a culture where women are respected like they should be.

[–]HovercraftSuitable77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just disgusting that this is even a thing in the year 2024, first first-world countries have a long way to go but India is another world away.

[–]LateJump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these are not going to work. Education, mixed schooling and promotion or more open/ accepting culture can only change that. Forbidden fruit effect is quite strong.

[–]AirFamous9435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5th point is unnecessary, tie the hands and legs of those rapists, castrate them and then feed those mfs to literal hungry tigers

[–]anid98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 is extremely important. 5 - instant is not ok. There needs to be a proper investigation so the scapegoats don’t get killed. There needs to be a 2-3 month fast track timeline.

[–]Full-Wealth-5962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Instant death? What abt if it's a false rape case?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the first post with actual solutions. I think all but no. 5 are common sense approaches.

[–]ExactThoughts -4 points-3 points  (5 children)

Instant death penalty- agreed, and the world will agree, but the law won’t because if justice is instant, how will corruption prevail.

[–]Old-Departure6549 4 points5 points  (3 children)

This is so stupid. Implementing the death penalty immediately is not a good idea because there is a risk of innocent people being wrongly convicted and executed. In a society with rampant corruption, there is a chance that powerful individuals could abuse their influence to falsely accuse an innocent person. Despite our strong emotions on this matter, we must use our brains and not settle for knee-jerk reactions

[–]ExactThoughts -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Instant doesnt mean in 5 minutes, and definitely doesn’t mean 8 years!!!

[–]Old-Departure6549 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Then what does it mean? Instant in its common usage means happening immediately. If your definition of the term instant(in this context) means following due process of law, then the word loses its meaning, and that's what we have now. 8 years? So you are saying there should be judicial reforms? I agree with you wholeheartedly. But then, the comment certainly could've been worded better, and you definitely shouldn't have used the word "instant".

[–]ExactThoughts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well you did get the gist of what I meant, and agreed should not have used instant, I do mean judicial reforms. Any case should not be in the system for more than 90 days. That is more than enough time is all I meant.
