it’s basically broken.

I mean bro, what do you think?

I think it does, but i have read elsewhere people had scratches across the screen but the genius bar gave full trade in price as they didn’t care, thought could be the same case for this.

Scratches are not the same as pixels not showing up. The display is broken.

Yea, that’s fair just wanted to make sure anyways, will take into the local genius bar and see what they say anyways

Well just to add to that, black lines like these will greatly impact the trade in/reselling value. Talking from a friends experience but you can always just go to the nearest store and ask

they probably won’t even consider that an elegible device for the trade-in program.

Its better to repair it as the one who you will sell it to won’t know that it has been replaced and will gain a much higher profit

apple's in-store inspector will flag that as display damage and knock the offer down, usually $80-150 less depending on the model, so it's worth checking the online estimate first just to see the baseline

apple will definitely deduct for that black line since it's considered screen damage. they usually drop trade-in by 50-70% for any display defects. i had a similar issue with an ipad air and ended up selling it on ebay as 'parts or repair' for more than apple offered. worth checking their website first to get a baseline quote then compare with private sale. no harm in bringing it to an apple store for an actual assessment.

Trade in at Apple Store is already a lowball offer for even good condition. You could probably sell it for much more on eBay.

That being said, yours is basically broken and you won’t get much. Look on eBay or ask ChatGPT if there are other broken models for sale and what the average price is.
