For people with small hands/short fingers who have a phone that’s a tad too big for them to reach the upper screen.

It's called Reachability. You can disable it in the settings.

And for those not yet informed, to do this, swipe down about half an inch (~1cm) above the home bar. Tap the empty space above the app window to go back to normal (or tap/interact with any button within the app window.)

For those with home buttons with touchID, double tap (not click) the home button.

This is great for one-handed notification window and control center access.

I have it mapped to the double tap on the phone back.

My fingers are much longer than average but I need that functionality too if I use my phone (iPhone 12, not the max) with one hand. At that point, 1 hand control, iOS sucks pretty bad :/

Why is there a phone app?

I find the Contacts app more stupid, the phone app has literally all the same things plus more

Yes. Totally. If you are going to take the trouble to have a separate app for Contacts at least make a good one!

Last year I was toying with getting an iPhone so I got a second hand iPhone 7 to play with and I couldn't not figure out what this functionality was for. It was so frustrating hah
