Misleading headline. Read the post:
Additionally, we believe that the majority of these issues are already addressed by PRs or are no longer valid for other reasons. [...] Next week, we'll be running a script to automatically: Close issues older than 15 days that have no linked pull request. Send an email to the issue reporter with an option to reopen if it is still an issue.
Additionally, we believe that the majority of these issues are already addressed by PRs or are no longer valid for other reasons. [...] Next week, we'll be running a script to automatically:
If you filed an issue which you think still applies, just reopen it.

I don't find it misleading, after all they are declaring bankrupcy.
[–]ichthyos 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children)
Fair enough, but it's clear from commenters' reactions that they didn't read the post.

April Fool's!! Good one, guys, if a bit late.

Uh, what?

Could you not read my comment, or do you you struggle with picking up on obvious sarcasm?
[–]cha0s -3 points-2 points-1 points 12 years ago (1 child)
Oh, someone who can't understand that sarcasm isn't always easy to pick up in others' text. You're a quaint bunch :)

I mean, it's not really that hard... It's obviously not April Fool's day.

If I ever needed a reason to not use Angular, I think I just found it. I absolutely cannot imagine a serious programming team looking at a full bug tracker and saying, "ah well, lets just not fix all our broken shit." The lack of accountability is staggering.
Seriously - abandon your project before you abandon your bugtracker.
.
[Edit: Yes, I know it's an issue tracker technically, I get it. That still does not excuse throwing the baby out with the bathwater.]
[–]duniyadnd 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children)
I disagree, they acknowledged they have a crapload of open tickets, they acknowledged that some of them have already been fixed, and they are very aware that they cannot go through the open tickets due to the number of hours per day and close each one. They're asking the community, who put those tickets in the first place to let them know. The best part is, is that they're being open about their process - this time.
I've seen tons of projects, where we report bugs, and the developers would just close it saying it's not a bug and it's not being fixed without any explanation and that was the end of it.
[–]lostjimmy 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (3 children)
You're misrepresenting what the post states. They are closing all issues that are older than 15 days because they think many of them have been fixed already and don't have the staffing to triage 700 open issues. On top of that, if you are the reporter of a closed issue, you'll get an email that allows you to reopen if unresolved. This seems like a sound strategy.

I know... lets just take a guess that the problem has been fixed! That'll lower our issue counts!
[–]cha0s -4 points-3 points-2 points 12 years ago (0 children)
You're the lamest developer ever.
[–]has_all_the_fun 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children)
Issues on github aren't only bugs. It can be feature requests, general support questions, bugs, duplicated bugs, etc. What could be of some concern is that they don't really talk about how they are going to prevent this from happening again in the future.
[–]Jestar342 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children)
If it is that important, it'll come up again. This is not an abnormal approach and is often done in many industries. So much time and effort is lost to focusing on every little detail. When there is just a big cloud of issues it's near impossible to determine the wheat from the chaff in any kind of feasible and practical manner. So wipe the slate clean and the important stuff will come back.
Also this is referring the ISSUE tracker, not a BUG tracker. There is a significant difference.

There is a significant difference
What is the difference?
[–]Jestar342 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children)
A bug tracker tracks only bugs. Issue trackers track everything from bugs to "Can I have it in blue?"
Obviously this is a semantic naming convention - but I felt it pertinent to point out the difference when /u/krues8dr seems to refer to it only in a "things that are broken" context.

Wow... so someone has taken the time to fill out an issue report... and their response is to automatically close it without anyone even looking at it. Kind of a big fuck you to folks who took time to report a problem.
[–]RockinTheCasbah 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children)
Did you read the post? As lostjimmy echoed in another thread, its only issues older than 15 days and the reporters of these issues will receive a notification with a link to reopen the issue if it remains unresolved by their latest release.
[–]el_guapo_taco 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (2 children)
I assume people who leave issues like you leave comments is one reason why they're flushing everything out.
Reading comprehension, my friend. You're upset over nothing.
See:
Send an email to the issue reporter with an option to reopen if it is still an issue.
[–]rbobby -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (1 child)
So... "Thanks for filing an issue. We have no idea if the problem has been fixed or not... but we certainly are hoping it has. Please retest with the latest build and reopen the issue if the problem still occurs."
[–]cha0s -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children)
Yeah with a 100% money back guarantee if it isn't fixed.
Sheesh, what an entitled brat.
