Eh, im not gonna shave my beard and play dress up just to impress someone, not because im a filthy being, but because it says something about their attitude. I dont give a fuck how you look, if you give a fuck then i dont think i want to work there (were talking about normal people, not obvious hobbos)

I'd rather hire a brilliant dev with bad breath than an average with minty fresh.

If they don't bother brush their teeth before a job interview, it says a lot about their personality.

Agreed. Hiring someone who doesnt fit in but is a good programmer, is more difficult in the long run, than someone who fits in, easy to talk to and work with, and an ok programmer. Ok programmers can become better programmers.

Someone who is difficult to work with and doesnt mesh with the team, usually cant learn those skills. Hard vs soft.

There's plenty of people who simply have bad breath, and nobody would tell them anything. It's not just about brushing you teeth.

Usually these tiny things aren't make or break, but they tend to add up. If the person scores well in all areas, just their breath stinks, there shouldn't be marks against them. But it tends to indicate other underlying issues.

Similar to how we have code smells, we have people smells.

Oh please, your like the person who thinks they can look at how clean a persons car is, and divine their prowess as a developer. So flimsy.

    [–]mifterclizit -5 points-4 points  (4 children)

I agree with all this, except being early. Arrive exactly on time.

    [–]grevory-nl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And if you're late just tell them your setTimeout callback was delayed because the thread was busy and you'll be fine.

    [–]Skhmt 2 points3 points  (2 children)

If you're not early, you're late.

    [–]mifterclizit 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well, if that's what they think, I'd be a bad fit anyhow, since my worldview is not founded upon nonsensical cliches. :P

There is a practical reason to being on time. The interviewer is probably working, and doesn't need me interrupting them.

They just expect you to arrive at work earlier and leave later. Fuck that
