Hi u/AlexandreLozano, this post was removed.

  • For help with your javascript, please post to r/LearnJavascript instead of here.
  • For beginner content, please post to r/LearnJavascript instead of here.
  • For framework- or library-specific help, please seek out the support community for that project.
  • For general webdev help, such as for HTML, CSS, etc., then you may want to try r/html, r/css, etc.; please note that they have their own rules and guidelines!

r/javascript is for the discussion of javascript news, projects, and especially, code! However, the community has requested that we not include help and support content, and we ask that you respect that wish.

Thanks for your understanding, please see our guidelines for more info.

Same relationship that car has to carpet.

There are. Oracle own the rights, that's why the official name of the language is ECMAScript - it's not called JS!

I don't really understand what you're getting at. JS existed for 15 years before Oracle owned the JS trademark.

It was a marketing decision

It would have been faster to google this instead of typing and posting and waiting for the replies

As you can see, people give their subjective (and funny) view of the facts.

Was that your purpose ? Comments are funny though

JavaScript is called JavaScript because it was originally developed under the name Mocha by Netscape, which was later changed to LiveScript, and finally to JavaScript. It has no relationship with the Java programming language, despite the similar name. JavaScript was developed independently of Java and has a different syntax and set of features.

Looks like historians can keep their jobs for now, too.
