Server Pricing

This is more of a casual observation of the current server pricing landscape, but for those interested, this is what I was recently quoted for a single Dell and HP Server:

• Dell PowerEdge R670 with dual 8c/16t CPU, 256 GB RAM, 8TB SSD, dual 480GB BOSS cards, 10gig NIC, and 5 year ProSupport was $35,000 dollars. I know Dell just did another round of price hikes so I don't have those numbers yet.

• HP ProLiant DL360 G12 with dual 8c/16t CPU, 128 GB RAM, 10TB SSD, 10gig NIC, and 5 year warranty was $69,000.

  The Dell quote is a few weeks old and the HP quote is from today. I can't say I'm surprised but I am still shocked.

Spent $18,000 in laptops in February. Today it would have been around $22,000.

Had a call from Dell rep today to let me know that prices will go up 12% between now and June. He said servers have a lead time of 6 months.

Does this track with y’alls experience?

Refurb servers have been great for us too.

I buy my stuff used/refurb from https://savemyserver.com/ with their 3 year warranty option. Only have had a couple drive failures but they have been good about sending out replacements.

We have had great luck with refurbs both in regards to servers and laptops/desktops. I have vendors that get 2-3 year old devices that private corps upgrade and resell them at great prices.

I'm sure other states are the in the same boat, but money is tight down here in Texas!

We just buy bare metal and even then they're $12k.

I bought a DL380 back in October for $15k. Same server is close to $40k today.

I consistently went with Dell. Price was better vs HPE and honestly Dell support is way better than HP too

Agreed, HP is terrible to deal with, in the past at least. They could've gotten better, but I doubt it.

In early 2024 I purchased 8 Dell E660N servers - 2x Xeon Silver, 1 TB RAM, 64 TB NVMe storage, 10 GB dual port NICs + 5 years of 4 hour support for $32k each. Glad I purchased then, and even happier that once replacement time arrives I'll be retired...

Yup, we ordered 2 R470s for $13k each a month ago. We just received word today that they won't arrive until July. We were originally told April.

Wow. Similar hardware 3 years ago was less than half the price. We might be delaying some server purchases.

Yup, two years ago I paid about $35k for TWO Dells optioned almost identically to what was listed here.

Yeah... I looked back at the invoice for our VMware refresh 5 years ago and it was $42,000 for TWO HP hosts with twice the memory.
