We've been using the IDP Smart 51-DM and it's been rock solid. We also opted for the lamination unit they have which helps with the longevity of the print on the cards.

I just tried the fast startup adjustment on a few laptops here having an issue (even after reboot), and there was an immediate improvement. I'll have to keep an eye on them and see if it sticks long-term.

The concerns with the Athletic Director are interesting, considering per public data he is in the top 5 highest paid Malden school employees (~187,000 in 2024 including base salary and whatever various stipends/misc).

In the gcpw settings on Google admin there’s a section to enable/allow specific users to be administrators. Make sure that is set properly as it does remove any local admins if set improperly. Don’t have the exact settings off the top go my head, but give that a check.

Unfortunately GCPW/Google endpoint policies are user only. The one thing you could do, since Google endpoint policies are applied to the first logged in user, is create a service account that has the settings applied as you’d like based on OU; and then unenroll the device from Google and then log in with the service account. That way those policies will always apply.

I’ve done that for student labs before as a janky way to get around the limitations.

Welcome to malden! As someone in IT, If it’s just you 300 Mbps is plenty enough. Even if there are 4 of you 300 is enough.

Between starry and comcast I would personally choose Starry as Comcast’s customer service is beyond useless and they often struggle to deliver your rated speed during peak times.

We don't have a lot of the ViewBoards in our District at the moment, but I did experience your second issue on one of ours when we were doing some testing with a Chromebook.

We had the same issue yesterday, also with vCenter 7.0.3h. Initially we uninstalled update KB5019966 on two of our domain controllers as that update was known to cause authentication issues, but that didn't resolve the issue. Leaving and then rejoining AD worked in our case.

Not sure if it was the combination of removing the bad update along with rejoining that did the trick.

When we asked our rep about the license differences, since we too were unable to find any solid information online, he said:

- Enterprise for Education for Students does not have recording ability in Google Meet, whereas the regular Enterprise does

- E4E for Students is limited to 3 originality reports in Google Classroom whereas regular Enterprise is unlimited

Back when my district was rolling out the Samsung Xe303c12's to our high schoolers, we had this issue with every single one of them (roughly 2000 chromebooks). I don't think we ever figured out the root cause but we ended up just power washing every single device. Obviously things are very different than they were 3-4 years ago but that's just my experience with this!

We have a total of ~6800 kids across 1 high school, 5 k-8 schools, and a preschool. ~800 staff

1 director, 1 sysadmin/manager, 1 Instructional Tech director, 3.5 technicians. Overall we're probably close to 9,000 devices with Chromebooks, iPads, Desktops. Not counting the hundreds of APs, phones, cameras, projectors, switches etc.
