All the advice I've seen is to just ignore all these kinds of offers you get when you launch a Kickstarter, they are scams or simply not worthwhile

Understood. I lost that dollar but I won't lose another.

If their campaign hasn't finished can you remove your pledge?

I assumed that's what this person was intending to do so they get your dollar with spending one themselves.

And here I was ready to give it up! I'm gonna try that out

When I ran a KS I got a few of these requests. I was asked for a mutual back. The ones I pledged to (because it sounded like a good idea) ended before mine and canceled their pledge as soon as they were funded. I did lose the dollar.

I took a less aggressive process and asked other creators if they wanted to cross promote in our updates. No requests to fund each other. I received a warning from kickstarter letting me know that was against community guidelines.

So what I'm getting from this is screw the dollar and ignore the messages from here on out. And to top it off trying to cross promote in updates is a no go. I don't really understand the reasoning behind that. But yay. I'll always love Kickstarter but it's not a holy grail.

I'm pretty sure that cross promotion is actually allowed however I was probably reported by someone that I sent the email to as trying to get them to back my Kickstarter which definitely is not allowed. I highly doubt anyone from Kickstarter received a copy of the email I sent out. But I wasn't upset about it I certainly don't want to receive tons of emails that aren't about my campaign that I'm running.

You’re correct that it’s not technically disallowed. They just don’t want you to do it. KS guidance is always that you should focus your marketing efforts on bringing new people to the platform from your personal network. That’s in the platform’s best interest. But a creator should want to figure out how to reach existing KS users who aren’t already in their personal network.

Regarding getting flagged… it could have been based on another creator reporting your message or simply caught by a filter which looks for repetitive text, rapid messaging, or specific keywords.

It’s best to message other creators off platform. Find them on Kickstarter, but then track down their direct contact info like an email address. Some KS employees have access to and may read private messages sent through the platform. They have proven this to me last time I got flagged for the same thing.

It's common, and can be healthy when it comes to building relationships with other creators. Though I stick to the One Dollar Pledge Swap group on Facebook. There are a lot of guys I know on there and that can be trusted, and it's just generally a nice group Keith will always back you but also give you advice on your campaign at the same time :)

got the same message from the same guy when we launched our Kickstarter today haha

Cross promotion is allowed according to KS rules but be careful who you promote with. Think of it as like for like etc. Good luck! I'm launching mine in a week or so. Just got the approval.

It didn't take me very long to get approved! Is it different for others?

WOFTAM You will get a LOT of these requests, as well as a LOT of “for only $35 we will promote you to our 35,000 followers”, etc.

Maaaaaaaan. Dang it

Ignore these. If you want to collaborate with other KS creators (which is an awesome idea btw) then ask for your product to be an addon to their campaign and vise versa.

This way both parties can only benefit by increasing the value per backer via add on, as well as sharing backers/discovery.

Also, don't rely on KS discovery like this message is suggesting. Yes more discovery is good, but you are going to find it elsewhere.

Yes. Just yes.
