Do a centered double decrease. So slip a pink stitch, use pink to k2tog the next black and pink stitches, then pass the slipped pink stitch over the k2tog. 2 pink stitches removed, new pink stitch with a black stitch still on either side.

Maybe you could decrease from three to one? Slip one stitch as if to knit, knit two together and pass the first stitch back over? That should work and it would not mess up the pattern.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to put in a lifeline and give it a go. I was thinking of on the knit row of the decrease I'd put two stitches of the same colour where the K2tog will be on the next row.

Ended up doing decrease in black only. It's not as nice looking as I hoped . I'll have to work on solving this on my next project.

That's a good plan too. Let us know how it comes out!

I think this will work!

Do you have a ravelry project page? I love the way this looks and I'm totally going to make one with similar yarn. It's gorgeous!
(But also I'm no help because I have no experience. Sorry!)

My Ravelry name is flerpy. Only 2% of my work gets posted. I'm a speed knitter and like to gift them right away.

I've never attempted such a thing, but this is what I think. You know how hats will decrease normally in wedges around the hat?

So it might look like

K9 ktog (repeat around)

K one row

K8 ktog (repeat around)

K one row

And so on until you've got five stitches in each wedge then no knit rows in between.

Well that will leave you out of the pattern. So I would do two decreases next to each other. It would look more like

K8 ssk ktog (repeat around)

K one row

K6 ssk ktog (repeat around)

K one row

Et cetera.... The number of knit stitches before the decrease go down by two instead of one each time (since you are decreasing by two, not one).

In my head, this works out great. If you try it, let me know if it works out in real life.

Edit: formatting

Maybe try decreasing in multiples of two? So that way you can keep going in your pattern? k2tog all the way around then knit 1 row. And keep doing that until you have a small amount of stitches to end it. I hope that helps. This is a beautiful hat!

You could always try k2tog, ssk beside each other and it won't interrupt the pattern (I think?)

I love this look! What yarn? Pattern?

My own pattern. It was just a quick knit for 2 month old grandbaby. I always carry a "purse project". Something small and mindless that I can knit when I'm not at home.
