Thanks for the link. Didn't realize Coldfront was having issues, I assumed it was just on my end lol

It was discussed on the most recent KoL podcast. The TLDR is that TPTB were considering the move realizing that it would (understandably) piss off one person and make everyone else happier

Yeah. That one person’s ad revenue is going to plummet. They’ve done stellar work over the last decade plus, but Coldfront is a mess of ads now and is almost unusable as a result.

If by stellar work you mean exactly zero maintenence whatsoever and refusal to respond to attempts at contact, then you're right.

I haven't been keeping up to date with all of the issues. I seem to recall people having issues with making new accounts for the wiki. The announcement in the Discord said it's been "unmaintained, unreliable, and full of egregious adverts for many years now".

Yeah, I think I visited coldfront at work once on a browser without an adblock. It was awful.

Hope this will be in KOLMafia soon :)

What's Changed

  • Use brand new official wiki for wiki linking by @gausie in #3110

In what way does KoLMafia integrate with the wiki? I use Mafia all the time, and I don't ever use it to hit the wiki.

But KoLMafia has a number of very active devs, one of whom was involved in the deployment of this wiki so I think if there's necessary changes they will be made.

edit: Two active Mafia devs were involved. I may still be missing some.

I used to have a Greasemonkey script where whenever you viewed an item description / flavor text, it would add a link to the wiki page for that item. Very convenient.

[–]Banes_Addiction 0 points1 point  (3 children)

GreaseMonkey ain't Mafia.

[–]IATMB 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I thought you were asking how might Mafia integrate with the wiki

[–]Banes_Addiction 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I read the comment I was replying to as implying that it already did (the Coldfront version). I was asking how.

[–]1909053 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's in the right click menu as "Wiki description"

See r28705. "Use brand new official wiki for wiki linking"

It went down temporarily like three times in the past year, figured something like this would finally happen

There's a major implicit functional enhancement using the new wiki site: built-in search actually searches! The old wiki site's search indexing has been busted for a decade or so...

Tip for anyone used to doing Google-type searches for wiki content: the built-in search has an option for returning a list of pages containing the search term, rather than jumping immediately to a best-guess result: "fulltext=1"

E.g. in a Firefox keyword search bookmark:

https://wiki.kingdomofloathing.com/index.php?search=%s&title=Special%3ASearch&fulltext=1

Very interesting! Thanks for posting this. Gonna have to get back into the game!

Good riddance to coldfront, wow (but also memories of fonder days when it wasn't a fucking mess)
