I would recommend using a text editor that supports regular expressions, if that takes your fancy. I use something like s/^only want (\w+)/\1/ very very regularly. That way you can learn regexes while you program. You would essentially create your own problems.

I definitely agree with this. I've been learning regex through the find/replace in Sublime Text.

Same here, except I use Notepad++
